    Default (Rude word) Apple!!!!

I'm trying to reset my late wife's ipad. I get through everything until it wants to send a code to her phone which was disconnected some six months ago. I jump through the bloody hoops for an alternative and it tells me my apple ID is locked, HOW THE (#$%^&*()*&T^R%$#@) can I reset it???????? Yes I have all the appropriate passwords, AND the phone number, but that phone is no longer active!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Apple stores are few and far between in my area. I shall have to wait until I head to the big smoke again.

Unfortunately I went through this same process recently in similar circumstances.

I had all the relevant documentation and Apple were very helpful, however the best they could do was reset the device so it could be set up as a new device.

Unfortunately there was no way for them to recover or provide the password to the device, nor the password to the iCloud account. As such I could not recover anything from the device (or in the cloud) that was not backed up elsewhere.

May I suggest calling them first before you make the trek to the city to find a store. They will outline exactly what they can (and cannot) recover.

Yes. Had a work iPad that was locked and its user had long since left the organisation. We had the invoice it was bought on and access to the online account, but couldn’t unlock it. The local Apple reseller reset it to factory defaults and unlocked it.
