    Default Facebook and news feeds

Does anyone know how FB is restricting Australian news posts? Can you just use a proxy server and your feed will come through as normal? Is the restriction at the new providers end? I like to get the ABC posts from my local area. hmmmm

A quick search on revealed this right on top:

I don't know what else becomes available when you log in, I am not a member.

As for posting links on FB, the whole point of all this is to stop people from sharing fake news and taking away income from those who do all the hard work, while FB and Google earn a motza for nothing.
Maybe people should start using forums more often.

I fully support these limitations but I doubt they will last for long.
Google has already agreed to share some revenue with our news companies so I think Zuckerberg will eventually loosen up.

Looks like the Facebook mafia really wants to put us under pressure:

It is time that the sheeple finally wake up and find out that there is more on the Internet than just Facebook.

Who f*cking cares, certainly not me. I have never been on Farcebook and never will be.

It's early days, so give it time to sort itself out. It usually does.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

So the government wants Facebook to pay for content that Media and Government Agencies put on their own Facebook pages.
From The Castle, tell them the're dreaming.

I don't think this will last long. Facebook will cave in just like google

Facebook are money hungry, and they crave profiling each and every person using their service.
With less news in peoples feeds, this means less people clicking on clickbait news, resulting in less revenue and profiling.

It all comes down to money and information (profiling).
They know more about each person than that person themself.

i reckon there is more to it - our Govt cant make FB pay taxes on the profits they generate in Australia so therefore they reduce the amount of profit FB can generate here.

Being one of those without a faceache account I simply could not care less what zukerburg does one way or the other. The guy is a lowlife snooper out to make a buck and that is all he cares about.

Plenty of other news outlets and in any case mostly listen to the radio, ABC and commercial stations.

Thank you for your vote of support Allover (if that's what it was), however I suspect that this may be due to a statement in the link I posted about Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook
exercising blatant left-wing bias towards political users
Which I don't believe is true. I think Mark Zuckerberg is just a CU NT. He is neither Left nor Right, he is actually a get rich quick university dropout who is a completely obnoxious person.

Get real. Facebook was set up as a free place for people to keep in touch.
Government Agencies and Media outlets using it to benefit themselves should be paying to use the platform.

No you get real, it was set up to suck lots of people in to provide an easy avenue for businessmen to foist advertising on them and harvest trends to aid business, which led to those business paying for the privilege, and btw advertisers and governments do pay to place material on facebook as well as to gain access to the data harvested by the platform. This has led to Mark Zuckerberg becoming one of the very rich men in this world"
In 2007, at age 23, he became the world's youngest self-made billionaire. As of January 2021, Zuckerberg's net worth is $90 billion, making him the 4th-richest person in the world.

I don't understand the carry on. All the info that agencies have on their fb page should be on their websites. Just go to there. Most have their own apps now so just load their app. if you want news from the abc for example.

fb was never going to be a free service forever and it's a model that all are using and slowly the big tech giants implement costs or extra features that will cost you if you want to use them. You'd have to be a goose to base your entire biz model around a fb page but I do realise some do and have become very rich!

You are perfectly correct, of course. The problem is that there are millions of dumb users out there who don't know how to use a browser or don't know anything about the internet, they just have a phone or an iPad with facebook on it and to them, that is the internet.

Companies who have a perfectly good website also have to have a facebook page, even though it is nowhere near as complete as their website, because if they don't millions of dumbos will never hear of them.

On the contrary, Businesses use Facebook to the detriment of a decent Website.
Their Website goes directly to their Facebook page.

This is as stupid as using Gmail for your Business identity.

Facebook was and is a social media platform for people and not Government and Business.

Yes the object for Facebook is to collect data and use it to make money.
Making money is the object of any business and that is exactly what Facebook is.

    Precisely!

..but there is more to that.
It is also about predicting and manipulating ppl's behaviour, which I find disgusting.
Google started all this and I had seen already the red lights in the early 2000's, while everybody around me thought I was just paranoid and crazy (stupid tin foil hat comments[which are actually made of Aluminium, not tin], etc).

Here is a very good take on this:

As always there are two sides to the story:
Facebook is a very useful tool for tracking down dumb criminals
but it is also a very practical tool for smart criminals who target dumb users.
