    Update, he's here.........

New flat dish comes with a combined router/power supply with wi fi only.

I have ordered the lan port adapter, my router has wifi wan capability, although I suspect it won't be ideal....

No bridge mode yet, but in progress apparently.

You can now transfer ownership of the equipment, so after testing I will probably sell it to someone who actually needs it as there is a long waiting list, up to a year

Starlink is out of beta now, so speeds/uptime will be interesting...

Check out my Speedtest result! How fast is your internet?

That's straight up via wifi, dish on ground.
With the v1 setup, bypassing the starlink router gave a speed increase.

I'll roof mount it tomorrow and do more speed testing over the weekend.

My lan port adaptor is on the way and I'll hard wire it to my router wan.

So far Speedtest are all in the same ballpark, latency is better from a Sydney server, I suspect WA link is not live.

The speed limits seem to be more on the the server side than starlink....

4k iptv, rock solid so far.

A buddy of mine who works at telstra has it working as a test unit.. Reckons it's a top notch system - works great.
Very fast speeds. He says 200-300mbps DL.

    Thanks for the update hoe

Interested to know if you get any drop outs ... ?

some say it never buffers streaming a movie because the speed is so fast it buffers ahead far enough to not notice an drop outs ? (don't know about conference calls or gaming etc ...?)

others are saying it uses a bit "too much" power .... on all the time adds to the electricity bill .... although the Rectangle antenna uses less power than the original Round antenna

I don't think you will have any trouble selling it .... as long as the buyer is allowed to transfer it their area .... (sometimes dependent on the number of users already in that area ... and service availability) ...it is better than anything else in remote Australia, I think ?

Had no iptv drop outs yet, dish is on the ground so there are some obstructions.

Looking at the logs for the last few hours, there is a regular 10 to 30 second drop out every 2 hours or so.

Its not physical, waiting for flat face to move, but seems to be a product of gaps in the coverage pattern.

It may be fixed by roof mounting flatty, giving more sky coverage.

Flatty has pretty much been pointing south since installing.

I will roof mount it tomorrow, should have 100% visibility.

Vowifi works fine, perfect for caravanning.
With a smart tv and catchup apps it will make vast redundant, as well as the need for a sat phone....

    Just roof mounted flat face...

Tip, stow it via the app before moving the dish so that it knows its been moved, or it may get a bit confused.

This would have to be the easiest internet system ever, it comes plugged in, you can literally take it out of the box, plug it into a mains outlet and put the dish outside.

The top section clicks into the stand, no tools required.

About 10 minutes to boot and connect. Foolproof.

Off to the pub now, I'll let it settle in and check for outages in a few hours.

Been cranked up for 6 hours since I put flatty on the roof, well rear patio to be precise.

Should have pretty close to 100% coverage.

    Since boot, no drop outs......

Latency is much better as well, unless you're a gamer then you wouldn't notice...

Settled down nicely since I raised it up off the ground, now it is unobstructed at low elevations.the app is very helpful with diagnosing these problems.

Dishy seems to point south all the time, must be a chain of satellites In View that way from my location.

Only thing I have noticed is that speeds are slow, 10 to 20 Mbps around sunrise. Probably atmospheric Interference.

No drop outs at all in the 12 hours, since I raised it and Latency much improved.

I would highly recommend this system if you have no or a crappy internet connection currently.

Unless you are a gamer or rely on low Latency. This should get better, as well as speed improvements as more satellites are added and the laser links activate. Not sure how many Aussie uplinks are active either.

Obviously electrical storms will affect it, same as any satellite service.

Its a game changer for travelling, add a smart tv and a Vowifi capable phone and you have Australia wide internet /tv/phone services, making vast and sat phones redundant.

A mobile antenna for permanent install on a caravan or motor home is on the way, meaning you could have a true Aussie wide Vowifi mobile service.

Cost is $750 for equipment plus $139 a month for unlimited access.

You can sell the equipment and transfer the service to buyer.

There is currently a 12 month wait for equipment, probably longer now that a load has been sent to Ukraine.

I would recommend purchasing the lan adaptor so you can plug it into your current network if you have any sort of wired setup. I'm not a fan of wifi only networks, the starlink comes with wifi 5.

Starlink premium is coming soon, expensive, but cheaper than a fibre upgrade. I was quoted 23k for a fttp upgrade, I'm 350m from the node...

Perfect for remote sites though, I'm sure the resources industry will be keen.

I'm not overly convinced on latency measurements proffered from starlink's own app....brand me 'justifiably paranoid' =)

Any chance of better?...ie; was is gaming really like on the thing?

I think in the northern hemisphere Starlink "antennas" point to the north (north pole direction of the sky)

in the southern hemisphere Starlink "antennas" point to the south (south pole direction of the sky)

possibly trying to catch satellites in a closer together pattern ? (as they move ...)

(our geostationary satellites like optus D1 etc seem to be in an over the equator position of the sky in comparison )

    Real world testing......

First is nbn fttn, second is starlink.

Then I pinged google, first starlink, second nbn.....

Latency is not much worse than nbn,
Ping to Google almost identical times....

    Gaming server ping....

    First starlink , second nbn....

All tests done on my oppo phone using wifi 5 to starlink router and nbn via draytek router.

I will retest starlink again via direct connection via draytek router when the starlink lan adapter arrives.

This enables the starlink router to be completely bypassed.

Thanks Hoe, not that I have need of higher speed than I currently have but that is certainly worthwhile if you need the performance and can only extract about 50Mbps out of the local wireless NBN like I have in our town. Or if you are really bush.

Not bad at all hoe... I might need something like this in regional Vic where I only have Sky Master service available to me when I'm away from Melbourne.

Few very short outages today, clear skies. Maybe dishy moving to another sat?

I've done some research today, it seems you currently need to be within 800km of a ground station to get service.

I'm assuming this is until the laser interlinks are active...

So how do I know if I'm within 800km of a ground station?

Is there a map of ground stations somewhere?
