I have a Gen 2 starlink installed near Perth.

Its currently getting +/- 20mbs download and 8mbs upload.

Its v easy to install - kit took 3 weeks to arrive from Los Angeles.

Anyone getting better/worse speeds ?

That sounds like very low speeds up and down ? (most people are saying they are getting download speeds in the 100's)

any obstructions in the view of the sky ?

are you at your registered location ? (10 or 20 miles away might not work ?)

failing all else get a support ticket with Starlink and ask them .... could also be a fault with the equipment etc ...?

That website is not accurate, shows me as outage continually while am downloading at 300mbps.....

Use the starlink app and see if your dish is being blocked.

You need a clear view in a southerly direction

I didnt order the ethernet adapter with the Gen 2 (stupid mistake), but its now on its way.

Try connecting your phone to starlink via wifi and running Speedtest on that

Mine's slowed a bit, storms about, ping is not good either.....

Pretty impressive, just some short drop outs while a big electrical storm came through.....

Been a couple of firmware updates, it's had 100% uptime lately.

When my adapter turns up I'll unplug my nbn and hard-wire starlink to my router wan port.

I'll see how it performs as a standalone solution.

Starlink increased their pricing a week or so ago .... thought I would have a look at how it effected starlink prices in Australia

they appeared to increase the price of the "standard" hardware to $924 (not premium or business as it is known now) and delivery $115

and they left the subscription price @ $139 AU per month

Surely there must be some length of time within which the monthly price is fixed (2 years, 5 years)?

I wouldn't be very happy if I outlaid for the hardware only to have them increase the monthly fee by 50% shortly thereafter. The monthly fee is what's holding me back now, the one-off price would sting the wallet, but only once.

I hear in the U.S. the subscription price has changed from $99 USD to $110 USD a month, (and there was no warning of a price rise it just happened straight away)

Hardware also went up in the U.S. but not as much about $50 USD for standard equipment that had been previously ordered and $100 USD for new orders

Lan adapter turned up today, now pings are pretty much the same as nbn, using my own router bridged to starlink directly.

I'll try starlink only for a few days and see how it performs hard-wired.

Initial results browsing are way snappier than nbn....

Should get up to 450 download with load sharing with Nbn Fttn.

Been running starlink standalone, hard wired to my router wan with starlink router/wifi bypassed/disabled.

Compared to my nbn fttn 120/40 sync connection :

Browsing is much snappier

Downloads are much faster

Streaming, no noticeable difference as both are plenty fast enough.

Reliability, no difference, both pretty much 100% uptime. But you will get some occasional outages with starlink. This is getting better all the time, no outages at all here in the last 12 hours. Most are only a few seconds and won't be noticeable.

Gaming, not sure. Initial pings are slower on starlink, but pings to eastern states game servers are pretty much the same.

VPN. Starlink loses here, they work fine but not as stable as fttn. Torrenting over load shared multiple VPNs is very fast, but drop outs are much more frequent than fttn.

Apart from the current 1 year wait for hardware, starlink is a very viable solution if you can't get a decent broadband connection via other means. It's still fairly new and improving all the time. Once the satellite interlink system is active it should be much faster.

You can still use the starlink app to access settings and stat's with the router disabled, you just need to click on your account symbol on top left of screen first.

But if you need 100% uptime you will need a backup option, as with Nbn or any other solution.

I suggest you order the lan adaptor and use your own router for the best experience.

For most people who just want a faster connection the supplied router with wifi will be just fine.

Just be aware there is no webif access to router, so no port forwarding etc....

This is why you need a backup, sitting on the couch having a beer streaming mtv 80s and torrenting latest TV episodes and then nothing....

Looks like a gap in coverage, first time Ive noticed such a long outage....

Get that starship happening Elon...
