Default Alarm dialer over NBN through UNI-V1 port

    G'Day all,

I've recently connected my old Solution 16 alarm system to my NBN box so that it can call mu mobile in the event my alarm goes off.

The phone line input is on the alarm panel is 4P4C and the connection on the NBN box is 6P2C. I've taken a 4-wire phone cable and connected this to a 6P6C plug either end to test with my existing phone and everything works fine when plugged in to the UNI-V1 port on the NBN box. I've then replaced 1 end with a 4P4C plug and connected this into the alarm panel with the other end remaining in the UNI-V1 port.

Once the alarm is triggered, I do not receive a phone call on my mobile having tested many times and double checking the programming. I know that alarm dialers are a bit hit-and-miss on the NBN, but my specific question is:

When I have the phone plugged in to the UNI-V1 port, as soon as I take the phone off the hook, the UNI-V1/2 light on the NBN box illuminates and stays on until I hang the phone up. I'm assuming this is to indicate an open line. When my alarm is triggered, however, this light never illuminates which seems to indicate that the alarm panel is not opening the line at all. Is there a possibility that the alarm system will not be able to open the line at all due to the fact that it's through the NBN? The alarm system gives me a fault code to indicate that it has attempted and failed to dial so I know that it is at least trying to dial something. I'm just concerned that there may be some other issue I'm missing given that the light does not illuminate at all.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

Have you tried plugging an analogue phone into the socket connected to the alarm panel?
Dialler could be stuffed on the alarm - was it working before NBN was connected?
How sure are you that the programming is correct?

Do you mean plugging an analogue phone into the NBN box or into the alarm panel?

My next step was to try to source an analogue phone and plug that into the NBN box to see if that works.

It was working prior to the NBN. But yes, I suppose it could still be stuffed. I’m very sure that the programming is correct.

I’ll try to test an analogue phone with the UNI-V port on the NBN box and see if that works.

Who is your phone provider? It has become really hard to find an RSP who will supply a “fiber phone” type service over the Uni-V ports on the NTD. Everyone wants you to use a crusty, cheap VoIP service.

NBN have now publicly stated that they are phasing out the use of UNI-V ports:
