Default Telkom4 C-band reception in melbourne

    Hi Guys,
I have been using a 2.3 m C-band for Palapa for the last 20 years now. This is over now as the satellite is on the incline. Al Indonesian channels have moved to Telkom4 and I try to figure out if I have any chance to get reception close to Melbourne. btw I know I am way out of footprint. I moved my 2.3m dish but not a sniff of signal.
    2 questions:
    1. Is there anybody in southeast australia with reception of telkom4?

    2. I have a sturdy 3.7 m KTI mesh dish in bits in the shed which I intend to erect again. What is the most sensitive reasonable priced C-band lnb/feedhorn available down under? (to increase my changes on reception)

    Hi phri,

I erected a 3.7m Dynasat mesh dish and spent hours tuning., etc. I was really surprised to note that I did not really have a huge difference in reception numbers from having a 3m Dynasat up for around 5 years before that!

Unfortunately I have had major issues with the heavy duty actuators, (water ingress and just what I think is poorly quality made actuators!)

I cannot comment on Telkom 4. I wish you well!

    Regards.

On your 2.3, If you are getting Asiasat 5 and 7 interference free you'll be OK. if you are getting lots of dropouts and pixelation, you are in for a battle with 5G Interference. one of good
Note that in some areas even these circum to the 5G interference.

I moved my 2.3 mesh to Asiasat 7, no problems there lots of channels booming in. But as I mentioned before no sniff of Telkom4.
I did found somebody who manage to receive telkom4 on a 2.3m in SA, so it might be doable in vic too.

Currently I am prepping my old kti 3.7m; cleaning, sanding, cold gal, repainting etc. Will be fun to assemble and set-up; weight is probably more than 100 kg.... (build in USA).
Thanks for the advice; I ordered a Mediastar PLL C-band LNB (build in 5g filter) with a Superfeedhorn for the 3.7m mesh.

Use efarina tv on 3977 H Sr 2083 which is the only one that usually loads and plays on a 2.7m in Perth. A few other did load over that way before they filled up the satellite

These were loading on the Perth Dish lastnight around 11pm Perth Time
    Efarina TV
3720 H mux barely just giving flicks of pics! 5.1dB
    3952 H Sr 3200 a Radio mux , again VERY VERY borderline on/off

Concentrate on getting Efarina as best you can and the other 2 should appear

    Red face it's working

Finished installation & tuned my 3.7m on Asiasat 7; 4dB more signal compared to my 2.3 m mesh.

    Moved to Telkom 4, and get lock and signal on 6 transponders;
    3766 H 21810,
    3720 H 32727,
    3824 H 3636,
    3860 V 31000,
    3888 H 9600,
    3949 V 04333
lots of tv channels coming through.

    Happy, the work paid off.

I was lucky at 18/5 with all these channels. A storm the next days pushed the dish out of position, and damaged the actuator. It took me a while to get the dish tuned on telkom4 without actuator this time, as very precise adjustments are needed to get a lock (not like asiasat 7 or 5 which come in even degrees out of tune).

After tune transponders I get now on Telcom4:

    3977 H 2082
    3974 H 1699
    3953 H 3199
3921 H 3500 (loose lock sometimes during bad weather)
    3888 H 9598
    3824 H 3635
    3766 H 21816
    3720 H 32722
    3966 V 6999
    3949 V 4331
    3900 V 29796
    3779 V 2499
    3997 H 4284
    3860 V 30998
3773 V 3329 (loose lock sometimes during bad weather)
    4023 H 1599
    3949 H 2499
    3906 H 6249

    Default Actuator water ingress

    Hi David071

I have both a 3m & 3.6m dish with large actuators & like you I thought for quite a while that these had water ingress issues.

It was not the case, instead it’s a condensation issue which I’ve solved by drilling 2 drain holes in the lowest part of the casing thru which I’ve inserted 2 short (approx 150mm long) rubber hoses for drainage - ever since this 3-4 years now I’ve not had any issues.

You may also silicon seal outside of gasketed joints for extra insurance.

But it’s really condensation that you need to address.

    Cheers Aliashere
