I saw a drone get whacked a couple of months ago We were at Long beach on GKI , one of our fav spots ( also a nude beach ) . This beach is around 1.5klm from the nearest civilisation , and there was one drone hovering over some girls for at least 5 mins. One bloke got sick of it , couldnt find the operator , so chucked a coconut at it , down it went into the surf lol. Nobody came to retrieve the wreckage either , looked like a very expensive one . Ive read since that to claim insurance on one you need to provide the crashed unit.

Don, where is the link to the article?
I found this:
I understand that this is a startup company, the systems are currently not available.
Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.
Compatibility: A word soon to be deleted from our dictionaries as it is outdated.
Humans: Entities that are not only outdated but broken... AI-self-learning-update-error...terminate...terminate...
That is not true, at least for my DJI drone.
You just need to supply the flight data that is recorded in the transmitter, it is similar to a so called Black Box on other aircraft.
However I am pretty sure from the sensor data that they can determine it was hit by an object and not flew into one or over the water due to a malfunction.

No, losing your drone because of pilot behaviour does not qualify for insurance, at least not with my drone.
I just realised that the black box data might include the down facing orientation camera footage that could have captured this situation.
I don't know if there is an 'at fault pilot' insurance from third party insurance companies.
I suppose anything is possible but there would be plenty of fine print for exclusions, like all insurance have.

They will build autonomous drones with a tight Faraday cage around all sensitive electronics.
Mirrors will also be employed to reflect any lasers trying to burn thorough the cage, or I will just wrap the whole thing in aluminium foil
