Don's generous offer might be a tad too large for your needs but there is nothing better than free, assuming you also live in NZ.
You might find a second hand Honda for $500 but Yamaha even second hand may cost more.
Problem with the cheapies is that they are likely to fail if rarely used, which I know very well from experience.
How often do you have outages and for how long?
With that low load you are talking about and as you didn't mention a fridge, keeping a 12V battery charged with a and a cheapo inverter might be more practical.
Those cheap Chinese sine wave inverters do work, they just don't last long under daily load.
