Default Hi. Considering putting up another BUD.

I'm in Newcastle, NSW and I'm interested in getting back into C-Band/Ku-Band big dishes by buying a 2.4M Jonsa Solid and getting it installed on a 76mm/4.2m pole alongside my shed. Once upon a time a long long time ago I had a 3.7m dish and was fiddling about with Asiasat 3S back when analog was the deal. Today I have just a $1,000 budget (Or less) to blow and a GTMedia V7Pro box. I've already got a quote for the dish to be delivered to a depot, $400. Tomorrow (18-06) I'll be hopefully getting a quote for the pole installation.

My intentions are to simply get back into the game with a double C/Ku LNB and a 5G blocking ring. I am a licenced ham radio operator so I will also be erecting a 4BTV HF antenna also.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking at in regards to sats and footprints on lyngsat, specifically is there anything outside of footprint that I could receive? Figured I could use the solid dish both for C and Ku and pull in those Ku transponders that are outside of footprint at least.

I've already watched everything on Netflix at least once.

    Are these any good?

Thought I'd check with you guys to see if its really worthwhile overall before pulling the trigger on the project. Wouldn't mind later on doing some SETI if the dish becomes useless.

Hi mate, I'm sure you could pick up a dish, pole etc for nothing as people just want to get rid of them. Save your cash and put a wanted ad up on facebook.

What width of posthole borer would I need?

    bigger is better I guess...

Even better, don't buy one but rent it. I'll wait till I am fully settled on a new lot of land before I buy one.

If you would like a FREE 2.4 solid dish I have one available & not too far out of your way. Just remember it is about 230Kg spun aluminum. You are also welcome to collect the pole as well but it has been there for over 30 years. Perhaps you might like to load a FT101b in your vehicle as well. Don't remember if it goes as it has been in the shed for 30 years as well.
Having a shed clean up & would like to see the stuff go to a good home. 2XUH
