I was always crazy about LEGO when I was a kid:

This will be a huge hit, unless somebody spoils it but I doubt they will succeed in the land of anything possible with firearms.
LEGO's IP protection has long expired, so I don't see any issues there...

    They’ve already been pulled.

The company confirmed a total of - wait for it - 20 were sold.

I’m thinking they may have slightly overestimated their market!

When I was 6 years old I would have wanted one.

I don't think it was pulled because of lack of interest.
Apparently LEGO managed to get a cease and desist order through and the company complied.
Maybe LEGO thought if this becomes popular, that every time a Cop sees a kid with LEGO they will just shoot first and ask questions later, which could end up detrimental for LEGO sales.

However elsewhere I read that there is no Federal law in the US that prohibits making real guns look like toys.

    Jeeeez....
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I think the last time I suffered pain from treading on lego pieces was when I was 8 and never walked barefoot since.
I also switched to Meccano at that age and constructed contraptions that could accelerate small things to quite high velocity, which ended up of course all over the place, so obviously my parents wore at least comfortable thick slippers too.

...and people always ask me why I even wear shoes on the beach, that's what engineers do
