Annoying Win7 issue with USB hub intermittently not initialising
I have an annoying issue where Win7 isn't always initialising the PC's on-board USB hub. When I connect USB devices, +5 volts power is present, but as far as the PC is concerned, nothing is connected at all. Not even a 'device unrecognised' error. As soon as I go into device manager, select the USB hub and go to power tab and refresh, it all comes to life and works fine. If I leave it for an hour or two, sometimes the USB hub becomes unresponsive all over again.
How intermittent? About 50% of the time intermittent - fairly often. I've tried adjusting the power profile of the PC from recommended to full performance, with no improvement, thinking it might have been some sort of green power saving issue.
Any ideas on how to fix this, as it's pretty annoying, especially when I just want to do a quick file transfer.

in high performance power settings there is a usb tab, selective suspend setting.see if it is disabled
also have a look in devi ce manager/usb devices and make sure all 'allow computer to turn off this device' settings are unticked.
check hub and root controller settings

Thanks Hoe, turning off the USB 'allow computer to turn off this device' appears to have done the trick.
