If you have not picked up on my post in another thread, I'm becoming older and grumpier and I'm finding the quality of comedians are not up to my liking.
I'm pretty disappointed with a lot of stand up comedians. They just aren't funny. I do still see some, but if there are any suggestions.
A couple of years ago I was touring USA with my son. We put the FM radio on in the car and enjoyed local stations in LA. Once we were on the interstate we had to switch down to the AM country stations. But then we were even out of range of them. It was then I discovered the car had SiriusXM and we started to explore those stations. When we found Jeff and Larry's Comedy channel, it was almost impossible to listen to anything else.
So Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the cable guy are pretty damn funny. But when you put them with Bill Engvall and Ron White, the laughs don't stop.
Everybody is different but I prefer comedians who are clever rather and the longer the pause between the punchline and the laugh because the audience has to think harder, the funnier I find them.
I was watching live at the Apollo last night and Simon Evans was not the funniest comedian I've heard, but he was good enough to make me continue watching.
So I guess the question should be, Who currently holds the Robin Williams #1 comedian seat?
Yes I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

Robin Williams!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
He's dead, he's off the list. But he is still the funniest comedian so far I think.
I could imagine if he was still alive ... he would have had to start taking cocaine again just to keep up with the stupidity of the trump administration and still get enough oxygen into his blood to get the next joke out.

He might be dead, but, there hasn't been anybody yet to take his crown.

I never found robin Williams, or any American comedian particularly funny. Too over the top in general.
My taste is more Michael McIntyre, pommy comedy....

A lot of comedians i've liked over the years are now hobbled by political correctness or have been caught (literally) with their pants down (Louis C.K.).
I like comedians that show up just how stupid life and people are in general.
When you can no longer mention colour of skin, sexual orientation, religion (you know which one), how fat/skinny/short and god forbid any racial stereotype then material starts to dry up.
Yes, a few still do it but are constantly berated online and even at their shows these days.
Imagine how long Benny Hill would last in these times
For what it's worth my favourites in no particular order are
Jimmy Carr
Louis C.K.
Jim Gaffagan
Bill Burr
Jim Jefferies
Ricky Gervais
Tom Segura
Anthony Jeselnik

Not a great fan of stand up, but I'll go with Williams....death is a common theme...
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
I'm currently listening to a heap of stuff from the 20-40s called Hi & Lo drug songs none of them are politically correct!

Still cannot go past Dave Allen for comedy.
Modern stand ups are not comedy. If you need to swear, you are not funny.
Although Billy Connolly could be the exception. Just.

Also not a fan of stand ups.
People trying to be funny and telling jokes don't make me laugh and many just go on and on about the obvious.
I like situation comedy with less words better. I can't name any favourite comedians.
OK I can name some but many wouldn't know them like Loriot, Otto (Waalkes), maybe some will know Gerard Depardieu... OK Rowan Atkinson at times.
Comedy is for me the unexpected with a witty outcome or totally silly which can still be very witty.
It is more the work of a play writer and the individual acting in specific scenes and sketches where I might end up rolling on the floor.
I can never get sick of watching shows like Black Books, The IT Crowd and Silicon Valley.
On the American side you can't beat Al Bundy but again it is the situation and the whole family, I don't know if I would laugh so much if he did plain stand up on his own.
Sheldon Cooper mostly in the earlier episodes of Big Bang made me laugh a lot as he was actually portraying me without me noticing it at first and I am not talking about his 'genius' theoretical physicist side but the way he is often using it to cover up his insecureness and awkwardness, while failing miserably.
As for Robin Williams I rarely laughed because I always noticed his sadness and suffering in his voice and acting that I found depressing.
I initially thought that was his gimmick until I found out it was actually his real life.
