Default Have your say about VAST

Optus has started an anonymous online survey, asking what you think about VAST and where it can be improved. Good opportunity to let them know what you think!

    Hmm where do you start.

    1. Upgrade main channels to FHD (1080p).
    2. Provide full bouquet of channels as received and enjoyed by metro terrestrial viewers.
    3. Reduce the repetitive and intrusive tele-marketing adverts (especially during news hour). (remotes with mute button are a godsend).
    4. Include WA regional news channels as part of the "Regional News" channels.

I agree ..... if your box dies you cannot just put the card in another box .... you have to buy a new card and box combo and then activate it or transfer the activation to it

I think they are finding out that satellite delivery is expensive compared to the internet (like Foxtel is discovering too)

If Starlink is rolled out quickly and delivers the internet successfully (and not too expensive) .... I suspect everything may move to internet delivery ?

Default Members please take the survey

Completed the survey and I ask more members to submit thier thoughts.
I Outlined 4 changes that would greatly improve vast.

1- Do NOT "marry" boxes to cards.
2- Ad extra good quality channels that are available on terrestrial.
3- Do away with the "Travellers" renewal process OR make it so it be done every 12 months inplace of the every 6 months renewal process.
4- Make the card usable on another vast box OR any generic satellite receiver.

    Cheers to All.

Great thoughts for all those above.

Please throw your improvement thoughts in a post so everyone can consolidate and enter them into the survey.

The more that take the survey, and more importantly, the more that enter the same/similar improvements, they may then take some notice.

The biggest and most impactful change that could happen to VAST is launching all the missing channels and upgrading the primary channels to HD. Unfortunately this has nothing to do with Optus, and everything to do with Southern Cross and Imparja. It's been well documented that Imparja and Ten Central both run at a loss so I can't imagine anything will change in the near future unless the govt throws them some cash and forces them to bring their services into line.

I'd also like to see a cheap set-top box option with minimal features for around $100. Single tuner, 1 HDMI output and that's it. Mountable on rear of TV with VESA bracket holes pre-drilled. Bluetooth remote, no need for an IR extender. Enough to upgrade a typical household's second or third TV without it costing an arm and a leg. For this to never have been an option is astounding to me. Technology has improved a lot since VAST began in 2010. Components are cheap. You don't even need a smart card if you use an onboard CAS which would surely be cheaper.
