Default There should be a Noble prize for Hypocrisy...

    ...and China wins hands down.

After all their ethnic cleansing in Uyghur they want to team up with the Taliban as best buddies:

Of course it is all about growth and power when they rebuild what we destroyed over the last 20 years.
Who knows, maybe once China has control of Afghanistan they can start ethic cleansing the Taliban and really get the job done where we failed.

China is as unstoppable as their Virus and the West doesn't stand a chance once China has taken over all the impoverished countries.

There was always going to be a small exception to the rule but generally the western allies fought the daily battles in Afghanistan to the international laws of warfare. China will not have the inside international media coverage of their actions to keep them in check nor will they play by anyone's rules. There is a very good chance they will succeed.

A noble prize would be be one thing, but a NOBEL prize for hypocrisy would be hotly contested, every year!
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

    It's a sarcastic word play.
Noble prize: Award for an 'outstanding' achievement
Nobel prize: Award for something that is a benefit to humanity. I didn't want to desecrate that.

Noble sentiment, but why? It's desecrated itself several times over the years with bad selections....

Errare humanum est, perseverare autem diabolicum.

Members of the committee have resigned upon the wrong decisions but maybe the existence of a peace award is the actual error.

Indeed they have. They seem to have gotten themselves into trouble by rushing to judgement on too many occasions....perhaps such a peace award could be profferred say, after 5 years? Just a thought.

Does anybody else notice that these Taliban people who are taking over are actually quite young?
It is yet to be seen but maybe after 20 years a new generation of Taliban grew up that has learned from the mistakes of their fathers, many who are likely dead.
If that were really so, then this war was not for nothing.

I think it would be a big mistake to allow China a free pass to meddle here.
The West should be more open(than currently) to work with them rather than against them.
We gave up and lost the war, so they kind of have the right to set the terms, which do not seem so suppressive as some are claiming, at least not much more than your average Islamic country.

What?...reported field executions of hundreds, blindings and such. Even if 50% exaggerated it's exactly what was expected. These are people who are religiously ideological, and rationality hardly comes into it.

It doesn't bode well. I agree with you on China, but we'll let it slide as we always have I'm afraid.

Don't think that hasn't already had a look there but for now it seems mining is not economical.
For him it is all about hydro and geothermal energy.
For China it is all about their Road and Belt Mafia.

...and they will have to get on with each other, just like in Congo and Indonesia.
Twiggy might be the only one who could be capable of bringing back a bit of normality to some extent between Australia and China.

... yeah with that attitude, obviously the third and last world war will be the only "End Solution".

Just sayin', it is what it is......you can't get around it.

Investments wouldn't affect your judgement would they?

I'm sure investments figure into the equation somewhere, but not at our mere plebeian level in the realm where democracy and politics dwell ~ this whole seppo pullout and the taliban moving straight on in, for mine just seems too damn orchestrated imho, too easy, too ordered.

You're right though, aught to be done about it, just sit back and watch the show from a distance =)

What I do actually find amusing however, is this premise of the CCP & Taliban being chummy...I can already see who's going to end up on the losing end of that deal

    Allow me the question:
Would you rather make money or make war?

Business brings people/countries to the table.

Dr. Forrest is putting Australia on the world map and while he currently still has to work with China to do that, he is also going to make us less dependent long term.
    Who else is doing that?

    THAT'S THE PLAN !

In a war everybody loses, even money, except the weapon industry from a distant country.

I'm not pro war, but I think the above sentiment is 'old worldly' in as much as all wars fought up until this point, didn't have to consider the premise of what the theoretical maximum (sustainable) human population of the planet might be. Nobody really knows what the figure is, but if one were to speculate a figure of 10billion as being 'too many people', then a war that kills people will be a good thing, for the planet, for other non-human life on the planet, and ultimately for mankind itself. Forget about 'everybody' if you're just referring to human beings, because their -numbers- will be the problem, not sociopolitical wranglings. Fortunately, I'll be dead before this tipping point is reached (unless we're already there? =)

Regarding war economy, I really think the CCP are looking at this -> "War is often used as a last ditch effort to prevent deteriorating economic conditions or currency crises, particularly by expanding services and employment in the military, and by simultaneously depopulating segments of the population to free up resources and restore the economic and social order."
