I dont believe any figures the govt publish. People that are actually looking for work , but dont have a job as yet , are counted as employed ? how can that be an accurate picture? Even elderly people who do volunteer work are counted as employed ??

Somebody working 1 hour a week is counted as employed.

The underemployment rate, 8.3% paints a better picture but does not include those who don't report that they are under employed or have given up looking for work, simply because they find nothing suitable.

Yeah, these things can be read just about any way you want them.

When everyone was touting the "economic miracle" after covid (pre delta) I remember thinking that the huge rush back to work was an early stampede by people in desperate straights to save their houses and businesses and that it wouldn't continue...
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.
