Default Looking for clues -- anyone else here get this SMS spam?

Not the Robert Palmer song, but have to admit the first lines of the lyrics really fit --> It's crazy but I'm frightened by the sound of the telephone, oh yeah ; I'm worried that the caller might have awful news, oh my

I rarely get any SMS spam, the average doesn't even take it to once per year over the past decade.

    Ergo, an even rarer event is androidOS after receiving an SMS text, actually popping a notification indicating the received message has been deemed as spam, so obviously I *had* to have a look ;

Anyone else receive this? This phone is on amaysim/optus (provider/carrier might matter)

I'm just curious I guess if any other ppl were targeted, as for myself who believes none of them are worth believing in or voting for (and I don't), I really don't fit the demographic this is targeted at -- folks who vote for one of the parties cited.

BTW.... the bottom line, imho, points back to the thread here 'oh what a brave bunch they are' as just another example of how spineless politicians are, and you can follow type that link into a browser if you want to see the video =)

I haven't received that one .............. the last time I had political SMS messages was way back in the days of labors mediscare lie. I got three of them attributed to GETUP.

I've been cold called though, by both a robot attributed to Andrew Leigh (our local fed ALP MP), and a local pollie named Yvette Berry in person.

Interestingly I received the message on an Optus SIM but not on my 2x Telstra SIMs. All in my name, all around the same range of mobile numbers.

Be keen to know if this message is carrier specific?

Kudos for being specific ~ it was something I twigged after asking a few friends the same thread question, and they all said 'no' but I knew they're on the telstra network, hence my query here (bigger sample set).

I won't nag on other respondents here to disclose their phone provider/network used, 'coz that's their business not mine ; civil liberty.

Well you see, herein lies the crux of my interest here -- you would think this is something like the electronic hustings angle being realized, but hang on a minute ; what if telstra customers never get to see it (spam or not), because of recent upgrades to their spam filtering operations? -- at election time, it looks possible for political bias to play out, if a network provider actively blocks content from their subscribers.

In consideration of civil liberties, I very much prefer to receive spam and then judge for myself whether it's spam or not, than never knowing about it at all.

For example -- even though there's no election campaign running that I know of, the voting public is supposed to make 'informed decisions' as best is possible, to determine their voting preference -- if your telco blocks this spam from ever hitting your phone, that means you never become informed about the fact that -this- political party here in topic, uses phone technology in such a way to promote their agenda.

I don't know about anyone else's view, but I think it's important for folks to see this 'political propaganda' for themselves, just to know for themselves what lengths this political party will go to, in an attempt to try sway public opinion.

Thanks for all who've replied thus far ~ we can see it's clearly not defined by provider/carrier, and that telstra's spam firewall is working as it should =)

peteramjet's datapoint is very interesting (if it remains as reported), as that infers they're somehow cross-checking subscriber names against {ahem} 'acquired' mobile phone numbers.

That being the case, it's reasonable to consider they might also be vetting other criteria -- simple example would be, how many phones held/owned by those not of voting age, are receiving this spam?

Now for the elephant in the room -- how many of you who received this SMS, had it tagged as spam, and hid it from your view requiring manual intervention to be able to view it?

Then I think to myself, where did the spam flag get set on -my- phone, and my best guess is the Google 'Messages' app on my phone flagged it -- what do we think about that? Would it be right that Google has place to decide that an AU (political) SMS broadcast, should be classified as spam?

For mine, that SMS message should've hit my phone 'untouched' as it were, and I would have opened it up, read it, muttered "Nah, you're a nutta mate, no offense just personal opinion", and tapped the delete button.

If Australia is a democracy why, then, is voting compulsory?
