    Default Digitech xc5233 soundbar issue

    Any help appreciated...
I bought a cheap soundbar from Jaycar (Digitech xc5233). Only $70, but the sound is ample for my small townhouse. Problem is, the soundbar is unusable because of the inbuilt "voice" which announces each mode, on/off, etc. It is set at full volume, unrelated to the volume of the soundbar or the TV, with no way of turning it down. Late at night, when I turn the TV off, the voice yells "POWER OFF", loud enough to wake the dead - or at least my neighbours.
Is there any way of turning this voice off???

If there's no way in the controls to mute it, perhaps just turn the speaker power supply off before turning the TV off.

Thanks MTV. Turning the speaker off results in the voice yelling "POWER OFF". It's bizarre. Of course there's no Digitech website for help either. It's a good little speaker apart from that massive design flaw.

I don't mean turn it off by by the TV, but by disconnecting it from the mains power.

How does it continue to work if you have turned it off at the mains?

Is it powered by some other means as well?

Ah, I get you. I've not tried that. Power socket is behind large cabinet, so not practical for an everyday procedure. I'll give it a go though, just to see what happens.

    Default Yep...

Yep, I pulled out the mains adapter plug from the jack in the side of the soundbar, and there was no "POWER OFF" bellow. Unfortunately, when I plugged it back in, the inbuilt voice yelled "HDMI MODE". So, not practical and no real solution. The more I hear it, the more I want to get the axe from the shed.

If it were worth the investigation...(after all, it's only a cheap product)...you could pull it down and examine PCBA to see if the audio signal path was exparte of the speech synthesis signal -- if it were, you could hack you way to happiness =)
