Code:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432Node\Clients\Mail::(default) registry value
Windows 10 removed MAPI so programs that want to send an email through your preferred email client no longer work. Actually any email client.
This a windows problem as it works in Win 7.
Just another reason to not upgrade.

My WIN 10 does not have that entry.
That wouldn't surprise me... search your registry for all instances of 'Clients\Mail::default)' entries, the value should be the name of your <preferedmailer.exe>... you can add the other string to see if it helps, but first you have to check that all instances of that call point to the prog you want to use
Ahh, my bad, presumed 64bit OS ..see how you go, I have a hunch there's more than 1 reg.key value at play here ... maybe search the registry for occurance of the .exe name that'd being called...outlook?
what email client are you using ?

When you say Windows Mail, do you mean Windows Live Mail?
Windows Live Mail stopped being supported a long time ago & has had issues performing on W10 builds since May 2020 build 2004.
I switched to Thunderbird as Windows mail would not send or receive Pop3 any more & my wife still uses a Pop3 only email address.
It would be interesting if you get it working with the registry hacks. I didn't find any of those last year when I had the issue.
Oh & Thunderbird had an update in Nov '20 which caused a similar issue, fix is here>

Only using Live Mail as it is the only Microsoft client on the Disc.
Once I get the programme to open my any mail client i will change to my preferred client.
