    Default Crypto mining computers

Not that I am interested in crypto mining, I have seen that these devices use Graphic Processing Units (GPU's) as the main processing unit for the mining of crypto coins.

What is the reason for using the GPU's?

    Thanks

Interesting question, I'd be interested in the answer, too. What makes these machines so special, and how does crypto mining work? I have an inkling, but I'm not au fait at all.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

Does this mean that a GPU based computer could be used for other high intensity applications like video rendering and SETI type data analysis??

Yea I realise that seti@home has ceased but it was an example of complex calculating programs.

Thats good info. Seems a better way to obtain a high level of computation power without having to build a cluster.
