    Default Pension increase

    I thought some of this forums readers might appreciate the following;

    Good morning to all,

I thought some of you may be interested in the latest pension increase for pensioners.

It is the princely sum of $5.74 per fortnight .... I say, Hallelujah, what generosity!

Being solely dependent on the pension after working for more than 60 years and living in a housing unit I could certainly do with this increase, it will allow me to buy an extra loaf of bread once a month, thanks Scott.

UNFORTUNATELY Housing does not want me to wallow in this new found wealth so they increased my rent by $5.70 in the same week as my increase.

I now have the grand sum of 4 cents a fortnight pension increase.

Does anyone reading this have a suggestion for what I should do with this extra loot?

    Regards

I do...hang on to it. When the government changes in a couple of months? you'll need it...

What pension are you on? Age? I thought the pension increase was supposed to be over 3 times that...and isn't housing a state responsibility? If so, talk to your premier about stealing your pension increase.

I could be wrong about all of that of course....I haven't actually looked into it.

Be thankful for small (in this case, very small) mercies, pray for bigger one's next time. At least, that is what my mother used to say. My pension (DSP) went up by around $18 a fortnight. As I am a home owner, they'll have to invent another way to steal my extra money. I suspect that the banks are planning the next rate hike soon......

Again, I'm not quite sure what you mean by $5.74. It went up by more than that I thought. And I'm sure that Housing rates are set by the states...THEY are stealing your pension, so call your premier.

lsemmens...in the ACT, they get you through your rates. My house is on a rather large block and I pay significantly higher rates than someone on a small block for some reason.

I believe enf is referring to the fact it was supposed to be a $20 increase ... I just checked mygov ...for me, single, in Qld, renting, on disability pension, the effective increase for me is $14.67

Yeah...my eldest daughter is on the ndis. She is going to check her rise for me....

Look, I'm not trying to justify the miserable increase at all, or comment on pension levels. But I thought it was all based on formulas.

As for the housing, consult your local theiving state government.

When Peter Costello, Howard years, gave pensioners a $500.00 dollar payment he was criticised.
When in reality it was better than an increase in the Pension.
Public Housing, Social Services and Nursing Homes take a percentage of the Pension.
    One off payments are untouched.
A rise in the Pension helps those who are not reliant on these services more.

Be interesting to know...for me, base pension payment went up $12, rent assistance actually went down a $1 (no doubt because our rent hasn't increased as aligned with CPI increase), and pension supplement went up about $2.50...which I think has something to do with the fact I live rural, with no public transport to the nearest town 20klms away, and thus rely on my own car...something like that...

    What's a pension?

Def: Pension plan: A collection of unpayable corporate promises backed by inadequate funds and managed on the assumption of unrealistic returns.

The ACT government changed the way the rates are calculated a couple of years ago....the land value actually doesn't have to increase to get a rate increase....

dont spend it all at once mate

jokes aside , the cost of living has gone nuts recently , and i suspect our govt is using overseas events as an excuse to screw people harder.

recently our local doctor was free to visit , now they charge $79 for the same visit.

ok so they drop the fuel excise by 20c but at the pump it only drops by 18c and at the same time the govt removes the rebate system used by truckies to survive.

The government just doesn't control everything mate, and so just can't "screw people harder" on a whim...well not yet anyway.

More like to the next pump and back!

Yes we do pay rates on UCV here and our council is good at spending it. Not very well, mind you. They've just fixed our street (only taken three years). firstly they resurfaced a section of road but not for the entire length of the street. Then they "fixed" the footpaths by adding more crackerdust to them (no sealed paths here). Now they've fixed the gutters in my section of the street, BUT..... only some sections and only one driveway in about a dozen houses. They've then re-surfaced the bits they took up to do the gutters but not the whole road. The footpaths are now a patchwork of gravel and crackerdust and the road surface is ether the original "smooth" bitumen with lumps and bumps in it or a gravel based substitute that has yet to develop the lumps and bumps! Clare council only really cares about Clare, bugga the other towns in the district.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
