Default unsolicited cold call results in unwanted interview

    Hi

I have had a recruitment agent cold call me after looking up my seek profile.
I am currently employed full time in a job i like with a good wage.

I have been cold called by a recruitment agency for a similar position. not unlike a car salesman I was given all these promises about how they could offer me more money etc.
after some pressure i reluctantly agreed they could represent me.

Thinking that i wouldn't here back from them.

anyway they had called me back and said they have lined up an interview for me with this company. i asked them again how much they are offering and the agent gave me this vague deflection about it depending on experience bla bla bla but basically a pay cut of 20k.

I am now compelled to attend an interview with zero interest and zero chances that i will accept it even if i am offered it as it makes no sense given it is a backward step.

I even mentioned that i am not really keen on the role and he just plowed through as if what i was saying was not computing.

What can i do in this situation as it is a waist of the hiring companies time and a waist of my time.

    Regards

And also a waste of the hiring companies time. Can You talk to the Company directly and tell them that you are not interested? and, especially, the tactics of the callers?
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

i'm not so worried about the recruitment companies time because they have been dishonest from the outset.
they waved a high wage in front of me to get me to agree to the interview then when it was lined up that was changed to actually be less than what i was on.

they have also not sent me any position description.

this is kind of a dick move in my books.

No I was more thinking of the company that they purport to represent.

    Why?
    You have a job.
Politely cancel the interview with the company that is seeking to employ you and ask the recruitment agency to remove you from their list.

Nah....politely and sternly ring up the interviewer, and let them know what the employment agency is up to, that leads you to cancel the interview you never agreed to....(it's called 'starting a fire' =)

The reason the Agency is pushing you to attend the interview is they get money for when you attend
In this case under false pretenses, they have broken a verbal agreement, ie to get you more money
They don't give a sh1t about you, i would not give a sh1t about them
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Madness"

Exactly why I'd let this employer know what they're up to 8)

I have spoken direct with the employer now, my main concern was burning bridges by pulling out of an interview

That was the inference of my using the words 'politely' & 'sternly' ... 8^)

edit: that is to say, you didn't contact them to pull out of an interview ~ you contacted them to let them know the employment agency has lost the plot, and booking interviews for ppl who already have jobs.

Not end of world stuff - that's in regards to the description of it. The person that reported it should understand what I am saying.
The above will not make sense to anyone except one person.

    Moving on...................

This sort of stuff is going on everywhere at the moment in all trades. My mate drives a truck 2 days a week, doesnt want anymore days due to family commitments to his son who has a disability.
A bloke came up and knocked on his windows and said "whatever your boss is paying you, I will pay $10 an hour more".

I am near tempted to get a job

Oh and Bazzy, it might be worth a quick look over at Whirlpool in their jobs forum or whatever its called as I would not be surprised if they have a thread on the topic and no doubt certain recruitment companies will be bobbing up with bad reps.

just by what you are saying it brings up alarm bells in my head. These agencies are more suited to entry level , high turnover , short term roles like security guards , forkies etc. They are paid to headhunt people and they will use any low act available in order to fill thier quotas. And they dont mention that for the first 3 months they recieve part of your wage as an extra commission. That could be where the $20 ph is missing - they are taking it !!

ive been burnt by these scumbags before , so what i would do is contact the recruiter about 5 minutes before the proposed interview and cancel it ...
