Just got an email to let me know that lifetime map replacement will discontinue for certain Garmin GPS as of the 1/7/23.
Of course both my models are on the list >
Cheers, Tiny

So much for them being "lifetime".
Perhaps they never expected the devices to last this long.
From the blurb, no option to even pay for maps after 1 July 2023.... just no longer available after that date.

I’m only aware of the Nuvi range, and no Nuvi device on that list is post-2011, so at a minimum those devices will get 11+ years usage. Some have been around for 20+ years.
The ACCC had a go at GPS providers and ‘lifetime’ maps sometime back after complaints about TomTom. The ACCC determined 5 years was a ‘reasonable lifetime’. These devices are all well beyond period.
Edit: Still disappointing for those that have these models for various uses - which included myself.

When I bought my Garmins (3 of them) the "lifetime maps" wording was along the lines of 'free map updates for the lifetime of ownership of the device'.
Looking at conditions now, there are so many 'outs' for all of the satnav companies that they can basically cease suppling free maps whenever they like.
I'm sure this will only generate more 'work-arounds' to activate maps like previously.
The "lifetime" map updates enticed people to buy new devices for that reason.
Here's an article about the ACCC crackdown on the use of the 'lifetime' terminology.
