    Default Office 2010 pro

My wifes computer died I had another computer here that the hard drive was dead.

So I thought I'd be smart and just swap the hard drives over all went well and win10 came on and all seemed fine but when I went into word it spat the dummy.
It was saying that there was a hardware change and the product key was used to many times so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it no luck because you can't activate it over the phone
as it is no longer supported. We bought office pro over 10 years ago for $850 so it is a legal copy and have been using it for that period of time on 2 computers.

Have search on the net for a solution but no joy at this stage. Any help would be most welcome from any one out there who might have a solution.

    Cheers Don.

I'll second libreOffice, I have found it to be much better than the M$ product once you've worked out some of the idiosyncrasies of the basic editor which is significantly different to windowsbasic but in many ways more streamlined. It will import 99% of your stuff with little or no intervention. If you use only basic word/excel/powerpoint functions, You'll notice no real difference. If, OTOH you use Access, with a lot of VBA, then you are in for a lot of work.

I do have a copy of Orifice 2010 that I could probably give you, but I am away from home for the next month or so. Try libre Offce. I certainly wont go back.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

They've done pretty well with LibreOffice ; I remember it back when it was 'StarOffice' and it had email client and web-browser builtin ...like a swiss army knife for office desktops, everything all in one spot -->

Without a doubt though, M$ office users typically have no problem with it, often remarking "it's just like Office!"....which it is, caveat some usage scenarios ...which is why I usually just toss a link ; folks need to try it to ascertain whether or not it's a suitable replacement...'nuff said =)

I prefer Open Office to Mess Office. It has proper dropdown menus, where everything stays put. No ribbon nonsense, where icons appear and disappear as I resize the window.

OpenOffice does have some irritating quirks if you start sharing files with Mess Office users though. Take a spreadsheet with a graph in it from Excel. Open it in OO Calc. You will get warning about the spreadsheet containing something Calc doesn’t understand. The graph is no longer visible.., ah well, I’ll make my minor edit and save it. Open the spreadsheet in Excel and that lovely graph that someone spent hours tweaking and honing to get exactly right has gone forever…
