Default Ness D816 alarm went off but why

    Home Alarm Ness D816

3am this morning and the alarm goes off but to my knowledge it was not armed, Unless the grandkids were playing with it yesterday and somehow managed to ARM it

but I would be surprised if that was the case as u need to press ARM/E only or ARM/****/E exactly as that ( **** is a 4 digit code)

I only have 2 PIRs and there is a tamper switch in the alarm/light box

ARM/E activates 1 PIR only and makes 3 beeps on the control pad and displays a Lock symbol and Armed 1

ARM/****/E activates both PIRs makes 3 beeps on the control pad and displays a Lock symbol and Armed 1,2 and the siren sounds for about 3 seconds.

Now even if the alarm was ARMED one of the PIRs need to be activated which was not possible by humans as we were both in bed

and checking the CCTV footage at the alarm time there was nothing evident at the time.

Upon arming and testing the system this morning one or the PIRs is not working, everything else tests fine. Backup battery is Good

My question is is it possible for the system to arm itself and or activate the alarm without being ARMED ?

Or is there some possibility the failed PIR caused it

Are you sure it's not a tamper condition that triggered the alarm ?
Because I have made a similar mistake with tamper and it triggered, not with your model though.

The only place u can tamper with anything is the outside box that holds the light and siren and that is intact and cctv shows nothing before the activation

Not physical tampering, I'm talking about the tamper circuit in the PIR.

That broken PIR, if that was the one that failed at 3am, it would have triggered the alarm. Alarm will think someone has cut the wire.

Most likely be a tamper switch on the outside siren box. The switch or resistor could be affected by moisture over the years. I have seen jobs where resistor not taped up or cover (like with heat shrink) from weather elements in a siren box rust away.
The tamper zone is active all the time so doesn't matter if alarm is armed or disarmed.

If the PIR is not working, is the zone showing as unsealed on the keypad?

8pm last night alarm went off again and it was definitely Not Armed. No unsealed icon on the keypad before disarming

I will check the wiring and tamper switch today.

I just plugged it back in and the keypad is powered up but there is no response from the keypad no beeps and it wont arm at all ?

It might have failed all together ?

When I find the book I will try to reset it.

I'll say disable one zone at a time until you figure out which zone is causing this. Starting with the siren box zone.

Have you had a look at the history of the previous activations to confirm which zone it was?
    Memory (code if needed) E
    Memory to step back
    Memory to step back
    Memory to step back
    E to exit

Alarms are not my thing however I recall that replacing the battery in a Ness system fixed the alarm going off at all sorts of odd hours.

I did read you said the battery is good however might be worth checking again.

    Good luck !

    Ok back again

I am trying to turn the siren output zone off for zone 1, P57E

I have a master code of 1313 so I press P1313A, 3 beeps, then P57E1E but get error after P57E long beep

    What am I missing ?

The Tamper Icon is on will that matter and or how can I clear that ?

There is a master code then there is an installer code.

You will need to be in installer programming mode to change programming.

If I press P1313E program mode comes up. P11E displays 1313 Master Code, P12E displays 1956

Installer code should be Default 000000 so I press P000000E long beep. I may have changed it I installed it 25 years ago

In the book I have 123 and 000 beside the installer code but neither of these work.

Is it possible to reset the installer code and keep all the other settings. ? Also the Tamper icon is on all the time can I reset that ?

While mucking around I have managed to get " 2 " on the display dont know how or why
    thanks

Ok got it, at some stage I must have changed the installer code to 123 (written in book)

But to get into Istaller mode I needed

P1313E 3 beeps and program icon on, now P123E 3 beeps and Program Icon is flashing and installer options are available

Now to see what else I can stuff up.

Still have 2 on display, obviously Zone 2 I have turned something on or off or excluded or monitored or something

I dont use the alarm much but fulse alarms in the middle of the night are painful, I would turn it off completely but I rely on the 12v battery to open and close a Vergola Roof a projector lift and door bell.

    cheers thomo
