Default Wire vs SPEAKER WIRE vs CAR AUDIO SPEAKER WIRE

Alright, I'm not seeing why SPEAKER wire is different to just normal WIRE.....as long as it's the correct gauge and thickness, why shouldn't I just use whatever random wire I can find for speakers? Also, alot of websites advertise "car audio" speaker wire, again, I don't see the difference, someone please enlighten me as to why these are different.....is it just due to being more flexible to pass through underneath the dash of a car or similar?

    Cheers, Gab

Wire is wire. As long as it's good quality and of a suitable gauge it doesn't matter whether it's used for home stereo, car stereo or a rock concert in the park.
As Reschs says above, when you see something advertised as being special cable for a certain purpose - e.g. "high quality cable for car audio use" then it's just the marketing department
looking to cash in on gullible people.

Try posting that on a Audiophile Forum, and watch the furore erupt.

But for the non-audiophile, any good quality, suitable guage, wire will suffice. Generally speaking though, "figure eight" wire, not intended as power wire, has traditionally been labelled as "speaker wire"

Given the OP has not participated in this (and other threads) he started... saying he only started them as he 'was bored'.
