Default Queen Elizabeth II has died, Buckingham Palace announces

Queen Elizabeth II, the UK's longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years.

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday.

The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

Prime Minister Liz Truss said the Queen was the rock on which modern Britain was built, and the new King would be known as King Charles III.

In a statement, His Majesty the King, who also becomes head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms, said: "The death of my beloved mother Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

A long time of public service, a true professional monarch who never ceased her duties until the end.

    May she rest in peace.

I'm sorry that the inevitable has finally happened. She truly was a class act.

I wonder how long the haters will be able to contain themselves....probably not long, they never can. I'm neither a monarchist nor a republican. I'm a genuine couldn'tgiveaf*ckist, and as such I'll have to now endure endless bullsh!t from all sides I suspect.

    Sigh!

He's not in charge of anything really. The monarchy is pretty powerless in this country already, but she kind of held it together. Now I suspect ol'wingnut will reign over its final demise....

I always wanted to say something positively antique that I saw in movies --- The queen is dead ; long live the king!

I'm sure that was worth the wait =)

I wish Charlie well. He has improved in recent years, so there is hope for him. I would suggest that the Republican movement will now swing into top gear now.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

What happens to the queen's birthday public holiday, does the date change?
Interesting times ahead as to what happens now, like new coins, bank notes and some anthems altered.

In my lifetime I have ever known ONE monarch.

    May she Rest in Peace.

People felt some how morally protected by her guidance with 70 years experience, through thick an thin.
She was the true Mother of the UK.

We always had to sing "God save the Queen..." every morning at school in the 1960's.
God has now failed. The Queen mother lived longer.

I can't imagine anybody capable of replacing her, Charles has nothing of her kind and my wife calls Camilla a witch.
Plenty have not forgotten the Diana saga but the people can't vote their King.
However they can vote for a Republic so he might need to get his act together and get popular, we'll see.

I strongly oppose us becoming a Republic(that word already has a sour taste) because that means we get a leader with executive(dictator-like) powers.

All the coins now have to be re-minted, is that even worth it?

Update: A deletion of features that work well and ain't broke but are deemed outdated in order to add things that are up to date and broken.
Compatibility: A word soon to be deleted from our dictionaries as it is outdated.

No Fester, it isn't worth it IMO. Neither is changing all the things with "royal" in them, insignias, paper headings, names etc....the cost alone will run into the billions. All so a bunch of insecure tools feel independant. Changing the flag...F*ck me. It will be endless.

Yep, If it Ain't broke ,don't try fix it. Malcolm Turnbull had a crack in getting Australia become a Republic, Matt Thistetlewaite, wants to have a go in getting the country become a republic-good luck with that.
Australia is a great country and I would hate to see it become a Banana Republic and have a dictator like leader....My 2 cents...

our public holidays where not actually on the queens birthday. and is different in some states over others. likely the name will change and dates will be looked at. we will likely get a public holiday for her death.

Money will remain valid and will not be removed from circulation. when new money is minted they will likely be minted with King Charles III with the portrait in the opposite orientation to our former queen. our $5 note will also be redesigned and put into circulation.
all currency in circulation however will remain valid and will only be removed when damaged or worn out as is currently the case.

I suspect however moving forward we will will get a number of different monarchs minted in circulation as we know King Charles is the oldest King to ascend to the throne so I suspect he will probably only rule for 20 or so years before William takes over. so assuming we don't become a republic it is very likely that there are people who are alive now who will see Money in circulation with Queen Elizabeth II, King Charles III and King William V.

You'd best buy up on Johnny Walker, they now have to ask Charlie for a Warrant to replace the Queen's warrant that they have enjoyed.........</wry grin>
