    Default What the best in carrier to noise ratio.

    Looking at Lyngsat.com they have C/N Lock figures on the right side of any Satellite and any transponders then they have the C/N Lock figure either a low figure like 2.5 or a higher figure like 9.4 so which is better when you have a small dish like 2.3M Mesh that looks at CBand Sats. I say the the higher figure works better on a small dish.

    Satellite transponders use 2/3, 3/4 and 5/6 FEC. In ideal interference free conditions, the higher the FEC the higher C/N needed to get you over the threshold of pixel free reception.
    2/3 FEC is very forgiving, using a spectrum analyser 5dB from the noise floor to the signal peak is good enough. 3/4 needs 9dB and 5/6 at least 10dB.

    There must be a reason why some transponder use symbol rate 2/3 like you say its forgiving and at the other end of the scale the fussy and the easy to wipe out 5/6 so what do you think is the reason. More channels per transponder or other use 5/6?
