Default High battery use, but no indication why

Got an Samsung A52 with Android 12, less than a year old, and is suffering from quite high battery consumption, but there's nothing registering in the system as to what is consuming the battery. This issue appeared only fairly recently in the last two weeks.

For example, last night I fully charged the battery, placed it beside the bed, and didn't use it at all. This morning, 12 hours later, battery usage menu shows: 1 minute screen on time, and six apps active in that time used <0.5% each - yet battery life is down to 55%
Something sneaky is using the battery at a fairly high rate, but I can't determine what it is.
Any hints on how to track it down?

Sure is: six apps active in that time used <0.5% each - yet battery life is down to 55%. Something isn't adding up at all.

You could try a factory reset. Apparently there have been a few android apps from Playstore infected with malware that could drain the battery. But you'd think those apps, if you have downloaded them, would show up on battery usage.

Unless you cite exactly which 6 apps were running, this info means nothing =)

We have recently had several power issues where I am located and that has meant quite a few people have used high power & capacity battery packs to charge their phones.

In at least 1 case I am aware of an Apple (yep I know Android is OPs issue) phone has suffered a damaged charging circuit from using one of these batteries to recharge. I cant believe that the circuitry is not designed to deal with it however some of the lower quality packs can produce very high currents - potentially damaging the charging IC of the phone.

Before panicking about this one though, may I suggest that you totally clean out the charging port - ie check "pocket dust" is not causing a small short ?? Minimum compressed air and swabbing with alcohol wipe etc (with phone off I suggest)

    Good luck,
    Cheers

I'm happy that the battery is charging up fully to 100% fine, and does so in a reasonable timeframe, so I think the charging port isn't limiting current at all.
The six apps in the list were: Google play services, Messenger, Wireless emergency alerts, NetworkDiagnostic, Google & One UI Home. All reporting under 0.5% use since last recharge. Looking at the usage graph, the slope of the graph is steeper overnight vs the slope today while the phone is intermittently in use making calls, messages etc... it's using more juice while doing nothing!
There are a few apps that the grandkids have thrown on there, but nothing in the last month. I'll uninstall all of them to see what happens.

After removing all of the kids games & a reboot, things seem to be much better behaved now.
I do recall on a previous Android phone a similar problem of high apparent battery drain, but there was a tell-tale sign of what was going on. The location 'pin' icon was constantly flashing on the menu bar. Obviously an app had gone nuts, constantly requesting location and sending it back to 'mother' - never did narrow down what app it was, though, in that instance I just factory defaulted the handset as it needed a good clean-out anyway.

Are you in a marginal service area? My phones tend to use a lot more power when searching for signal when I'm outback, than in town.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
