Default Briggs & Stratton carby question.

    Hi all.
I have been given an old MTD ride-on mower (1996) with a B & S, 18.5 hp, horizontally opposed twin, engine. It will only run while I trickle petrol down the carby. I persevered with cleaning it and got it to idle (nicely) but as soon as I opened the throttle, the engine would die. I'm now contemplating purchasing a new Ebay replacement carby but I can't find my exact carby. My carby has a 3 screw fuel pump and all the ones being offered for sale are 4 screw. Apart from that, they appear to be identical. So to get to the point, does anyone know if these carbies are interchangeable?
    Many thanks, Deek.

Hey Deek - find the block in the carby - there will be goop that has solidified somewhere you have missed, probably in the actual body

Go to Bunnings and purchase a , get some compressed air, carbie cleaner and try again

Found it! The hole was so neatly covered with silt, I didn't see. The engine now runs pretty well.
    Thanks again Freakee.
