    Hi xafalcon
    Update from New Plymouth.
Now have a GTMedia V8X receiver which works really well on chan 9 mux - getting 83% quality in most weather- drops off below 79% in rain etc.
As you say not as sensitive as the x1000 but it does the job - and has the added plus of auto rolling biss and powervu ( not powervu + ) .
Happiness is a working satellite receiver 🙂
    Good receiving everyone.
    John

    Greetings xafalcon

Out of interest 172e now has a new multi mux worth a look perhaps!
Could never get them on 160e due to frequency and footprint positioning !
16apsk fec 4/5 so should not require a huge dish- only catch is 11.044ghz so a universal ku lnb will be required (9750 local osc )
    Anyway good receiving for now.
    Cheers
    John

I have been informed depending on where you are a dish upwards of 900mm preferably 1.2mtr may be required for reliable lock on 172e.

    Greetings from New Plymouth-
Now have a universal ku band lnb
( eBay ) installed on an 800mm offset and focused on 172e.
Scanned up all available chans on 11044 V indicating 95% quality on my x1000hd (77% on Gtmedia V8x).
Very fine day here so it will be interesting to see how rain lowers the margins !
Anyway all good at the minute .
    Good receiving all.
    Cheers
    John.

much appreciated I have been able to find the ABC and SBS mux on 172E. I am getting 74% Quality on a Gtmedia V8x using a 90cm Toroidal dish. Will be interesting to see much rain fade affects it.

    Hi KiwiBill
My lnb skew on 172e is approx 1degree (1 degree clockwise from rear of lnb ) in New Plymouth.
Like you I use a v8X receiver - and it will be interesting to see what happens on the first rain !!
    Cheers
    John

My question has been answered - light rain in New Plymouth tonight and 172e is fading to black on my 800mm offset.
x1000hd is holding lock a little better than the v8X but still breaks up and fades to black .
    Cheers
    John
PS- remembered a trick from trial and error years ago - put a plastic rain guard over the lnb to stop water running down the lnb face - watchable now.
