Near the old Freo bridge..used to swim there all the time.
The last attack in the Swan River was in 2021 at Blackwall Reach. Used to swim there all the time too as it was just near home...
The Acting Fremantle Commissioner said that it was unusual for sharks to be that far upriver...
The old bridge isn't that far at all...I dunno where these guys get their information. Didn't think I'd find this, but I had a look...I remember this attack, I was at school. Anyone from Perth knows THAT IS REALLY upriver.
From this board....
Way back when I was in High School in the late 60's a girl from my school was attacked in the river around Belmont or Garrett Road Bridge. She survived fortunately. Her name was Ingrid Gersmanis. A few months later a horse being exercised around East Fremantle was also attacked. Don't remember what happened to the horse.
After that there were several sightings of sharks in the river as far up as Guildford Road Traffic Bridge. At the time the sharks were called Swan River Whalers but were almost certainly Bull sharks.
The fact that there's a highway to hell and a stairway to heaven says a lot about the anticipated traffic flow.

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...
Oooops....

Commercial fishing is taking the food that sharks traditionally exist on... not surprised that they are coming in to conflict with people more frequently as they look for things to eay.

I think the bull sharks are around there more because Bondy and all the other entrepreneurs destroyed the breeding mangroves to the north. They have to come into the estuaries to give birth. And bull sharks particularly can go way up river. Bulls will attack anything and anybody.
