Default WIN XP PRO software uninstall failure

    Hi people.
I have a very expensive software to run on Windows XP.
I need to reinstall the software.
At reinstall, I get an error-
" you cannot install a new copy without completing the previous instance or any other filters or drivers" "to complete unstallation, restart your computer"
Problem here is 100 restarts don't fix this to allow a reinstallation.
Anyone have a clue what I may have to delete to solve this.
The registry seems clear, folders are gone and such. It looks uninstalled.
Microsoft is no help and the vendor no longer supports the software.
I'm begging for help here, I need this.
    Thanks in advance.

As an offline machine, settings include 'show hidden files'
One note is the RS232 port is being hijacked by an unknown source and likely associated with the bad uninstall.
    Task manager finds nothing.
I installed some software by AGG software and it shows com 1 does not exist

There is nothing wrong with the installer, the software has run flawlessly
    for a couple years.
Installing a serial programming package included a serial port driver, likewise, that has been removed. That is when the problem began. I don't often use the software, but now I have need for it.

I did resort to REGEDI and did just that, but there seems to be a tentacle left behind I cannot find.
I also deleted any related folders.

Not my point ~ as someone involved in WINE development, we are used to tracing/tracking what installers do (create our own registry entries etc etc) ....but I'm sure you'll figure it out 8)

It might be faster to reformat your drive and re-install EVERYthing from scratch that includes XP. What is the software that is so critical? Is there a more recent equivalent? IIRC An UBCD for windows or Hirens might have tools to fix said problems, Haven't delved into the inner workings of windows for some years so cannot be more helpful, sorry.
I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message...

That is starting to look like my only recourse. Now if I can only find my XP software
and re install the 30 some odd apps.
This includes radio service software for a dozen radios, a few J-tag packages, eprom programming, terminal emmulators and more.
Consider, this is my bench work computer Can't produce without it.
You are talking 1 to 2 months starting from scratch.
I think faster with a different computer set up for the 8 current projects.
Your suggestions are fine, they just wont work for this.
    Thanks.

OK, here is a link to the software that looks to be the problem.
This is a demo unless you buy (expensive) a key.
It also looks like this version is no longer supported.
A couple years back, I went through this and uninstalling and manually
clearing the registry allowed a reinstall. Now it fails.
Hope you can do something with this:

    Thanks for the help.

OK, I got my serial port back using system restore, but I did have to go WAY back.
The Eltima software that caused all this is back, but can't 'UN install it.
It is also back in demo mode and really don't want to pay another $100 to fix it.
Next, I will try to spin up an old backup and see if I can replace the file it claims is missing.
    (progress is good)
    Cheers
