as the warranty seal is still intact
obviously its showing an intermittent 3RROD - wink wink nudge nudge
and off to MS it should go in one of their prepaid postal coffins to be repaired...
Hi - just after some advice - got a friend who's x360 is not booting up - it starts up nearly goes through the microsoft boot up and re starts - it shows part of the silver x then reboots itself. The green flashes up and flicks through the 4 controler green bits and I get no red error ring. Now the box has not been opened or modded or flashed in any way. The mfr date is 2007-02-11 and sounds like something is loose inside. It is a loved and well maintained bit of machinery and the owners child is fretting over his sick toy.
I believe the owner bought it second hand
is is fubar'd or can something be done ? - bearing in mind the child loves his x360 live
thanks

bake it in a towel and see if it fixes it temporarily, if it does it could possibly be fixed with x-clamp replacement but as previously said if its still in warranty dont go opening it just send it back...
Pak_indo - seriously...the towel thing does work, but not as a perminant fix. Google it. Plenty of articles about it.
RROD errors generally mean that some of the soldering inside has come unstuck. Wrapping a towel around it encloses the heat, and can remelt some of the solder to restick it properly. A mate of mine did it and it worked, but every 2/3 days he needed to repeat the process so he just sent it off to ms and got it back working
i had the same reaction as you pak_indo when i first heard about it, but like just stated it can be a temporary fix and it would indicate that it is fixable with an x-clamp mod.
definly the way to go, warranty seal in tact or not --> just got one done yesterday which had no warranty seal
Be aware, I bought an untouched 360 recently, second hand. M$oft had me quote the serial number. Then refused to fix my console, despite the RROD. Said I was not the original owner thus I was not entitled to the warranty.
***Note*** either they have changed policy recently, or I just spoke to a bitch of an o/s call center girl.
As a side note, I later " got the original owner onboard " and got the console repaired, free of charge. Just wanted to give a heads up.
i had the same thing about a month ago with microsoft, were going too refuse repair because i wasnt the original owner... i talked them round so they must have some leeway they can give.
Just do it online....its quicker & no run around

Ok so here is the deal.
1) Covered by warranty
Your console is still covered by M$ warranty for the 3rrod error. (Full three years. The service operator confirmed that all Aust purchased units are still covered under this warranty). As such they will repair it free of cost for you and give you a 1 month membership gold subscription card.
You do not need to have the original reciept at this stage, they will accept it's within the 3 year period (This will obviously change next year once the three year period starts to expire on launch consoles).
2) Out of warranty period repairs
Ok so your 360 has stuffed up but it isn't a 3rrod problem???
As long as all warranty stickers are still in place they will repair your console for $132.
3) Warranty stickers removed/damaged
For whatever reason (i.e. external repairer, modded, opened due to curiosity etc), if your stickers are not in place undamaged M$ will not repair your console, full stop. Not even for a price.
All they will offer under this scenario is a $318 trade in deal, where you send in your old xbox, pay $318 and they will send you back a reconditioned 360 (Not your original console).
The trade-in deal is a joke...what planet are they on???You can get a new unit for $230 FFS
