Look Here -> |
install .net framework
Put a partition and either put Win 98 or WinME.
I have found alot of the proggies For Card programming will not function properly under XP, Ive tried most of them, And resorted to a Custom built 98SE PC for card programs and logging only.. Got sick XP telling me I couldnt do this or that etc.... Only problem is theres alot of new proggies for cards that wont run with 98 either.... When you have 4 or 5 PC's and a few lappies layin around doesnt hurt to have 1 dedicated 98SE machine just for these occasions
Hi Guys
Thanks for your quick responses, i think i'll get a laptop with 98 if i can find one

Hi,
FMCard and LMEdit loading problem with Windows XP
If you get errors when starting FMCard or LMEdit with Windows XP and /or Windows 98 ME SE
The .ocx files must be installed and registered.
This is done by the following method.
Place,or copy these files into your \windows\system32 directory
1 comdlg32.ocx
2 mscomctl.ocx
3 mscomm32.ocx
4 richtx32.ocx
5 tabctl32.ocx
Now on your desktop, click START then RUN and type in this
command,
regsvr32.exe filename.ocx
Hit enter
Do this for each of the 5 OCX files.
TIP Make sure that NO different versions of the ocx files are installed in the
Windows\system directory as opposed to the Windows\system32 directory where the
ocx files are located
TIP If any of the ocx files fail to register, make sure that NO different versions of the ocx files are located in the Windows\system directory as opposed to the Windows\system32 directory where the current ocx files are located.
Replace them with the Windows\system32 directory ones, so that they are all the same version
The VB Runtime6 file is also required to make the process work.
Place VB6 Runtime File into Windows/System Folder, and the doubleclick on it to run it, done
VBRun60.exe is a self-extracting executable file that installs the Microsoft Visual Basic run-time files that all applications created with Visual Basic 6.0 need in order to run.
VBRun60.exe installs the following core files, which ship with Visual Basic 6.0:
ASycFilt.dll, ComCat.dll, MSVBVM60.dll, OLEAut32.dll, OLEPro32.dll,
STDOLE2.tlb
VBRun60.exe Filesize: 1043Kb
Hope this helps

I have lost count of the hours I have lost trying to get most of the above apps working with XP, despite registering the OCX files etc, if an app would open (FM did) it would just have errors when reading and writing. In the end I dragged out an old Pentium 166 I had doing nothing in the shed and reinstalled win98SE and it works a charm, not ever an error, I suspect it may have something to do with the way XP handles the serial port
I know it's an old thread but may still help someone.
Simply change com port for 1 to 2, register your files and set your programmers to com 2, fixed.
For some reason XP hijacks com 1.
If you're having problems using COM1 on Windows then most likely one of the programs you've installed is secretly running in the background and watching COM1 so it can spring to life if you ever use it.
Common ones are
- iTunes (it will often watch your serial port for presence of an iPod, unless you turn off that feature)
- Mobile phone and PDA synchronisation tools
- Fax programs
Go through the list of running programs on Windows Task Manager and see if any of them have reason to use a serial port. When you find the right one and shut it down then chances are your COM1 problem will go away. To stop the problem from recurring you then need to go into that program and configure it to not monitor the port in the background when Windows starts up.
Sometimes the free pdf creating software will latch onto com1.

I've found it's not actually Windows XP, it's certain motherboards/chipsets with Windows XP.
I have an old Intel BX motherboard that I run XP on, and I haven't found a program that doesn't work on it yet.
My main system, which is a s939 dual core system with XP on it, also works with most software, LMedit being the only one that I can't get to work with it.
But most of the systems I've had between these two had major problems with apps that used the serial port. Socket A boards where the worst, I don't recall any of the ones I owned working correctly, I always had to add in a PCI to Serial adaptor card.

HI, I cannot get lmedit or ggedit, so i am looking for ausgold editor first version i had deleted it many years ago. i have loaded the silver with the v3 bootloader, then emerald file, then lastly the Ghost.hex at 6mhz using ic-prog, i remember there was another version of Ausgold editor NOT the same as the Writer that i had and have not been able to find it since Ird*** 1....can anyone let me know what program to edit as both or if ausgold fist version of editor is still around :
LMEDIT --- not working
ausgold writer --- works but doesn't work correctly
the ausgold editor i am refering to is a totally blue screen and it was easier to enter the details for silvers.
thanks anyhelp would be great in using the 3 hex files to edit or a program that will work?
Thanks....
