    Default Ghost listings on car sales

    My Partner and i are looking for a car on Car sales and it is getting a little frustrating.

    I was looking at a Honda legend. the car yard keeps giving me excuses why i cant go and look at the car. First they said that its getting a road worthy then when i challenged them again today they said that its getting mechanical work done to it. I asked for an eta and they then said they would check and call me back. after hearing nothing back all day i called about 2:30 and got the same response. I then asked them to please check and i will call back in an hour. They then made themselves uncontactable for the rest of the day.

    Terms and conditions for car sales state this

    What You Must Not Do

    You must not offer for sale any Item:
    not located in Australia;
    that is not immediately available for sale - such as an Item which you seek to auction or rent or an Item subject to syndication;
    that is not accurately described by the category in which it is advertised, for example only motor vehicles may be advertised in cars for sale and only marine vehicles (and not, for example, marina berths or marine accessories) may be advertised in boats for sale;
    that You are not the owner of; or
    in all other cases, which You do not have the right to sell.

    so the car yard is in violation of the terms and conditions.

    we then found a Holden Calais we liked and contacted the person selling it.
    Phone switched off. no answer to txt messages or via web form.

    I am guessing they have sold the car however

    3. What You Must Do

    You must :
    remove Your Ad if the advertised Item is:

    sold; or
    withdrawn by You from sale.

    The platform is worthless if you have to sift through pages of garbage before you actually find a vehicle that's available.

    I guess on another topic a caprice that has 380K on the clock, would that be basically trash?

    My son was looking for a new car and was looking at a 10 Month wait.
    Found a Dealer demo car with a few thousand kays on car sales.
    When contacted they said the car was not available for sale as it belonged to the manufacturer and on loan as a demo car.
    What the hell !!!

    The problem is with Importer stocks for new vehicles. The Dealers have access to these vehicles & therefore advertise them as new vehicles for sale, the adds just keep cycling until you call the dealer & they say yes we can get one or no sorry that model has just run out.

    I had this experience with Car Sales adds for new Motorcycles. December 2020 I was looking for a specific motorcycle that was 2020 model, many dealers advertising this model on Car Sales & when contacted, not one of them actually had one on the floor. So they call the importer & say, sorry no longer available, but we can preorder a '21 model. So I would decline & say sorry that's not the model I'm after. Difference being Euro 4 to Euro 5 specification & I wanted the Euro 4.

    I eventually found a Dealer that helped me by letting me know of another Dealer that had one on the floor & was still for sale as far as they knew.
    I called that dealer & they said they had a customer that had given intention to buy it. I said, has he paid a deposit, salesman said no. I said go ask your boss if I pay the deposit right now will he sell it to me. Called me back 10 minutes later & said the bikes yours if you pay the deposit right now. I did & still have the bike.
    Cheers, Tiny

    My car was bought new. I advertised for specific model, colour, transmission. Got a dozen calls with cars that were different in all combinations. Pissed me off big time.

    Eventually got a call from a dealer on the NSW south coast that actually had what I wanted. Bought it over the phone with a credit card deposit...

    When they are desperate, they are desperate. Oh yeah, this was late 2017 BEFORE all the bullsh!t with covid....

    What seems to be increasing across more and more businesses these days is they just outright lie about what they've got or what their product can do.
    Seems sometimes that every single item one purchases or looks to purchase is great and does anything you want* and more without you lifting a finger**

    * except it doesn't
    ** and never will

    Sounds more like a pretty accurate description of the government and the policies they try to sell...

    If you are after a used car... buy from privet seller or at car Auctions... that's where dealers get most of their stock...therefore never buy from a used car yard. Auctions have good quality ex lease and government cars. but have rubbish cars too. some need minor repair but you save thousands. First thing to do is visit redbook.com you can check on any car and year model for the current market price.

    If you are after a New Car... buy from new car dealer. Once you made up your mind on the brand and model, Contact all the dealers in your city. The price would be much the same but some will throw in allot of extras for free.
    Before Covid a 2 to 3 year old ex lease car was to be got at auction for half the price of when it was new. Nowadays it's just a few thousand less than the new car. Example an entry level MG is going for 18K drive away with 5 year warranty.

    Just off topic
    NO!
    I bought from a Auction a WM Caprice V6 LY7 6 cylinder (no timing chain issues), It had at the time 650,400 k on the clock and the car looked like and drove like a car that has done 10,000 k on the clock. Everything worked ok, nothing was wrong with it but what I did not tell you it was a chauffeur car it was maintained to the hilt. The Log book (at the office) said It use for 15 years Mobil One. AND Any ISSUE IT WAS FIXXXXXED IMMEDIATELY.
    Also I know one guy at Grays Auction that was chasing Statesmen or Caprice and he bough cheaply a Caprice that had 960,000 K another chauffeur car so he got that one and I could not fault it whist on the auction.
    After this I got a WN Caprice V 6.0 Ltr that I still have today and it was just about New, nothing wrong with it. Everything works OK , Head up display The Air con, Passengers tilt mirror, Auto adjust head light (PS if you have a FAT person sitting in the Rear seats that allows to headlight to adjust the car being down for the extra weight) all window ok, Forward Collusion alert, The Full infotainment, yes the two tvs out the back, Electric heated seats Sh.t lots more extras in the car..
    Most Statesman or Mainly Caprice with high mileage were chauffeur car, the ones that have low mileage is Government cars and they are gone now, all snapped up now. My Son is driviing around with a Statesman from the Premiers office in Brisbane It was a good car but he like most young today they cant keep the car condition like it was the day when the car left my garage. Shame I'm still cranky with my son.
    Yes the WN Caprice V that I have you can see you face under the car as it was maintained correctly, even the stainless steel exhaust pipe are shiny. Show me the Thread on this site and will show you the pics of the car + under neath. Know one has a Car without the front of the car damaged (Scrapped) underneath at a parking lot, but I have. Most Governments cars were V6's but every now and then they get a V8 with the Works
