Using a Monitor as a TV

A friend has a Live In Caravan with no TV. I have a 19 inch monitor AL1917A.

Can I use Chromcast with a HDMI output with a cable to convert to VGA to plug into the VGA socket on the monitor and use the setup to drive the monitor as a TV.

Am not sure about the mention of a chip in the Cable blurb below.

Yes that would work although better to use the DVI input as a HDMI-DVI adaptor is about $5 whereas HDMI-VGA as you show you'll also need "hdmi f to f adaptor" Something will have to be done for sound too.

Being a 19" monitor the aspect ratio using a chromecast would result in not filling the entire screen. but it will work.

The monitor aspect ratio is 4:3 ; this will cause problems. Best idea is to get a widescreen monitor ..ie; this'll likely be gone by the time you read this... ...but like $1 + postage

Basically get a monitor that can do 720p minimum (1920x1080)..

Can pickup a TV for throw away price these days if not free, not worth mucking around.
