Default LG TV Burn or shipping Mode

    Hi Guys,

I have a LG LED TV 65UB980T that is in Burn or Shipping Mode (red, green, blue, black and white).
Just wondering if anyone knows how to get out of it.
I tried holding power button etc but still the same.
Original problem was no picture so I heated up the processor.
I have pic no remote control working just power button on it.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards
    aarty

Your TV is stuck in "Purity Check Mode." In that mode, the TV cycles through full-screen displays of red, green, blue, white, and partial-white to check for non-active pixels. This indicates that the TV somehow went into service mode, and the colors on your screen are a test pattern.Color flashThe first, is to try and reset the EPROM in the TV. To do this, remove the power cord from the wall, then press and hold the power button on the TV itself (not the remote) for 20 seconds. Then plug the set back in and power it up.The next thing we can try on a user level, is to use the TV remote, and press Cursor Arrows UP then Down, and unplug power. Then plug it back in.If this does not cure the issue, then this indicates a failure in the TV's EPROM which is what runs this Test/Service Mode, and there are no resets or adjustments you can perform to fix this. Also try just pressing exit on remote--Reset- Symptom---Buttons on TV don't work and screen flashes different colors one at a time...red, blue, white, green, blackTry this--Stand near the TV's power cord and on the TV's remote press first the arrow up then arrow down and unplug the TV within 5 seconds , wait 10 seconds and try the TV again. If that does not do it then, repeat the procedure but this time with the arrows left then right.Test Modetv stuck in test modePress "EXIT"

Thanks for that but this is straight out of “just answer” website… which didn’t work for me… is there any LG service people that can assist?

User manuals are on LG's website ...

*It details what's required to establish a serial connection between the unit and PC. A command reference table is provided.

    ...and the service manual obtainable below (free download);

*it details accessing the unit via ethernet port and PC/web-browser to interact with the service menu. Function tables are provided...

...updating firmware OTA and via USB drive is also covered.

However, I've had a brief read/search of the docs, and found no reference to 'burn' or 'shipping' mode ~ it seems to be undocumented.

That said, the unit is running AndroidOS/linux, and if this were 'some other device'..ie; android tablet... this looks very similar to 'OEM mode'. In this mode, the embedded filesystem is unlocked, and vendors can include their own branding/logos, suite of applications, locale specific settings etc etc, before 'locking' the device into end-user mode.

This case however seems like a deeper rabbit hole...'brun' and 'shipping' modes, are factory (ODM) modes. In particular, 'shipping' mode infers just that...ie; this is how these devices are shipped to the OEM (LG in this case), waiting for their brand/locale specific firmware to be added. (burn in mode is factory only...typically 1 USB port is wired as OTG, and you can hotload a test firmware image via PC connection, and check all the hardware functions).

Original problem was no picture so I heated up the processor
This'll be my guess as to the cause, as disrupted/disturbed BGA balls could easily account for this menu being displayed...ie; all the way from can't talk to eMMC drive, to this factory mode is controlled by a small pullup resistor that got lost/moved or the BGA ball it connects to is now shorted to ground...and lots more besides =)

You best bet, would be hooking up the UART (serial) connection, to see if there's any comms there. Alternately, if you can find suitable firmware, reflash it (or try to) from USB drive.

    Hi Aarty,

Do you happen to have a model number?
On the old plasma models, this mode was known as "Heat Run" For over ten years now, the LCD models would only display a solid colour when requested by the service remote control.
Bear in mind that this pattern is generated in the T-Con PCB.
You reference "heating the processor"; I assume you mean the SOC on the main PCB. This device is a BGA package and rarely responds to attempts at reflowing the tiny ball connections.
