    Default Silly question re audio

For some reason I have lost all audio on the computer. I have checked the mute, tuned up any volume, speakers are on and volume up. I am on Vista, I have tried WMP, Realplayer and the TV tuner and there is no sound anywhere. What have I done? I am sure it is something simple. I have also changed speakers and no change.
    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Now you open us an opportunity to give you all kind of silly answers .
I'd check for latest windows updates related to your sound card. I know my card gets killed by the update, so had to hide them.

completely uninstall the drivers and hardware for the sound card from computer hardware/device manager, then reboot when asked for drivers install dont let it do an auto find tell it where the first set of drivers that you were using that worked are and install them

What I meant was that windows update might give you bad drivers, meaning not to update, but rollback to the older driver.
Otherwise do what fandtm suggested. The idea is to use audio drivers which worked for you.

I tried what you said but it automatically installed without prompting.

Can you do restore windows to an earlier date? Pick a date when you sure the sound worked.

Problem sorted For some reason I wasn't installing the new driver properly and it kept coming up with an error but when I uninstalled again, then went to install, it automatically picked the new driver and it now works.
Thanks guys for your help. Much appreciated
