My house-mate's rebuilding a IZH Jupiter 2 ....gotta love the name =) He's aiming for the classic resto...
...note the metal cowl enshrouding the carby directing hot air off the cylinders into the box to stop the carby freezing while crossing Siberia ... I believe that pillion grab-handle is structural (bolts to the frame)..350cc 2cyl with one carb..huge fuel tank, closed drum brakes to fend off river crossings and snow melt...best fitted with a chair IMHO, he thinks so too...anyhoo...
...he's been putting the engine together, and I'm the local 2stroke wizard, so he's been wandering in with various bits&pieces, basically asking "which way around?" should a part go, because it'll go in more than one orientation, and the {ahem} manual you has for it is 7/10th English and 3/10th unstated stuff that you obviously should already know. For example...if you know your 2stroke inline twins, you can't help but notice the crank ending is very short this side...they achieved this with a shared fly-wheel arrangement in the middle of the crank between the 2 cylinders...crazy stuff...there's crankcase sealing plates that also act as bearing carriers, and there's nothing to index them...but if you look close they're designed to be wells that scavenge 2stroke oil that's collecting on the crankcase walls due to centrifugal force, and windage from this crank pushes this oil into the wells, to feed the bearings/seals...ergo, 'this way up' or they starve, but it's not illustrated/written anywhere....
....latest one, he comes in with this..."which way round does this go?"
...it's an example 'friction' plate, out of the wet multi-plate clutch in the thing....but obviously....I thought at first it was made of bakelite, but the part listing says 'plastic'....it's a little reminiscent of the older 'bottle cork' clutches, with the little raised circular pucks of plastic that actually contact the steel driving disc....
...this is everything you didn't want to know about wet multi-plate clutches...in car automatic transmissions, the clutches are kept wet by lubricating/cooling transmission fluid (typically) pumped into bearing areas through hollow mainshafts or passage bolts. In that case you've got transmission fluid coming from the center, and centrifugal forces force it up against the inside of the clutch plates ...typical friction plates are made with drain troughs...
...as this assembly is spinning, the oil passes along the radially placed grooves, to be slung out into the transmission case, thus cooling the clutch and providing a way for the fluid to return to the sump.
You can do a lot of things here to control this fluid flow path...
...two examples there are directional fit ... they have a 'this side to front' fitment requirement, dependent on rotational direction....back to Russia....
...unlike the automatic trans, this is a wet sumped clutch, and clearance between the pucks means there's always enough slinging action. The clutch assembly itself rotates counter-clockwise, thus molding the 'plastic' plate like that next to the tabs, means the clutch will pickup oil, and pass it into the clutch center when it's closed/rotating .. I'm not sure if this aids in the clutch release action as well...

For some reason, only your first image shows, the rest just go the imgur home page.

It was a site setting in Austech, I could see all images prior to logging in to the site. They'd disappear the moment I logged in. Investigation of site settings found "Show Images" in Thread display options, unchecked. I'm certain that I never turned it off, but who knows, that might have been some years back and only now has it presented a problem. So, sorry, Hoe, my OS had NOTHING to do with it.

Во всем, как обычно, виноваты потребители!!
...AU$70 for a set of plastics & steels out of Serbia...AU$50 postage...
...fun fact ... the motor can use either of the two commonly available sparkplug types at the time (hot & hotter)...as used in just about every petrol engine over there in those years...
Who sed? I'm a consumer! Now BOT.
Is that $120 (incl postage) for the entire clutch kit? Are there any other items that may not be available locally?
It will be interesting to see it running.

...lol...either you've got a hyperactive imagination..or ..can I PM you my address so you can share whatever hallucinogens you're currently taking? =)
There's nada in AU for these things ~ everything has to come from the EU...from anywhere you'd find these things...Poland, Ukraine, Serbia, Russia...most former Eastern Bloc countries..."Land of the Urals" so to speak. The really freaky thing, is just how many parts are available for such old beasts ; you can still get pretty much everything for them, as the basic design didn't change for decades, and the bikes themselves were designed to last for decades...and be serviceable with the most basic of tools...
....old'mate walked in with a tub full of carby bits....I'll have to take some pictures, it's next level stuff...seriously =) It didn't take me long to figure out the choke circuit plunger was missing...he got a lot of this stuff, already dis-assembled in boxes, so I had to describe to him what the plunger would look like, blabla, and eventually he found it ...and it's broken...and I suspect there's a 3mm ball bearing missing (check valve)..but like it doesn't matter, 'coz you can still buy parts (and gasket/rebuild kits)...I'll grabs some pics later, you gotta see the fuel bowl float and cutoff valve setup...it's something else =)
