    it works perfectly for me.

    but I use a 7020 now.

your pc needs to be reliable to make it work, and your network needs to be able to handle sustained data transfer.

any problems will rear their ugly heads.

if it is doing that it could be

    1; faulty network cables
    2: switch/router playing up
3: running a tone of other stuff like torrents on the comp
4; the drive is being used by something else on the computer
5: easiest way to eliminate things is try and plug the dream straight into an extra nic on the comp and see if it still does it

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

this is my setup for the dlink NAS

firstly i renamed the unit to nas then

1: i created a user called dream and password was left empty
    2: i created a share called movies
3: i set the share and user with full read and write rights

i set the mount on the dream as

    1: cifs
    2: ip for nas
    3: Directory = movies
    4: Local Directory = /hdd
    5: Option 1 = rw
    6: Option 2 = nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
    7: Automount = yes
    8: Username = dream
    9: password =
10: set the recording on dream as direct file

i then also created a folder called movies inside the share

after you put all that in make sure you save it then reboot the box and check that it did auto mount

I'm seeing some interesting behaviour. If I enter /hdd or /mnt/hdd in the client directory, when I try and mount it it seems to create another instance of the list of mounts with the client dir /var/mnt/hdd. This instance is mounted with a green tick but the one I created has the red x and is unmounted. But as soon as I try and record it states on sceen "Record failed due to inaccessible storage". Makes me nervous that it changes my client dir and create a new mount in the mount manager list.

    dm500s with latest gemini

    Here is my config:
    PC:
    * C:\dreambox\movies (dreambox dir is shared with full permissions)
    * I created a user 'dreambox' that is an admin with full rights.
    * Turned off windows firewall

    dm500s:
    name: test1
    filesystem: CIFS
    Auto mount: yep
    client directory: as tested above
    server dir: dreambox
    IP: IP of above PC
username and password of the above user on the PC
    options: rsize=4096,wsize=4096
and have these tickerd: rw, nolock, intr, soft, udp

I've read this thread a couple of times so must be doing something real stupid.
    Any ideas?

EDIT: I used th web interface to browse the "root" under "zap". I can see in /hdd /mnt/hdd and /var/mnt/hdd the other folders on my PC. I can see the movies folder and also another folder I created. So it seems things are close.

Last night I helped a friend set up his DM500 to record to his computer and got the same results "Record failed due to inaccessible storage".
After further investigations the Pli lolite image he was using was looking for a directory "movie" not "movies" it now works fine.

So it seems that different images look for different directories.

    here's one.

i am trying to mount to a Popcorn Hour (it's always on, so much easier). I can get it to mount to share just fine.

But what I really want to do is mount it to share/Video/Dream. Can PLi handle having a depth of folders? (so to speak)

Yes depending on what is being shared on the popcorn box, in this case the easier thing is to share share/Video/Dream as Dream if this can be done.

Or as you have it now, you can drill down to share/Video/Dream right?

    Same here,

Got the drive mounted OK, can't seem to figure out how to record.

    tried the yellow button..

1 stage I did get a record menu up on the screen, it knew how much HDD space was available and calculated how much time it had but I couldn't get it to record.

    Any more tips, thanks.

    Edit

Ok - got it recording now.

Audio no problem but the video stops and pauses every 5 seconds or so then runs for a couple and then pauses again.

    Any suggestions.

I have similar problems when recording to a mounted drive but Ngrab works fine.
Don't worry, it only seems kinky the first time.

I have set mine up as.
    CIFS,Automount box ticked.
    PC IP-10.1.1.9
    Media/hdd
    Movies.

Enabled the "movies" folder with shared entitlements in PC folder sharing.
Also you can change the recording and playing section in the dreambox to set up recording preferences.

    Besty

I have a NAS drive hooked up to my DM500S and heaps of problems trying to mount it. Basically looking at the NAS drive through my PC, there were a few folders, one being labelled 'share'
In the end, that's what I had to input.

So my config is as follows

    Description : NAS
    File System: CIFS
IP Address: (IP of NAS Drive)
    Mount Point: /media/hdd
    Directory: share
    Username: .........
    Password: ..........

I then have my PC mounted as well. All the same as above except for everything..........

    /media/server1
    Dreambox

Now you have to make sure with the folder that the upper/lower case is exact. Also, make sure 'SHARING IS ENABLED'.
    And MAKE SURE FOLDER EXISTS!!!
    Cheers, Saintaholic
