Perhaps a timer circuit triggered by the gate motor when it activates, with a turn off delay?
Hi all,
Hope we all had a good and peaceful xmas and NY...
I have a large 4.5mtr long 1.8mtr x H front sliding gate.
It is operated by an electric toothed motor thing.
The Gate motor has a light option, but only whilst the gate is opening/closing = no timer delay.
I have a 240v GPO next to the gate and I want a light that comes on when the gate is moving and would stay on for a pre determined time, say 2-3 minutes.
All the 'Motion Detector' lights seem to be PIR, but I was hoping to find a light that I could point the sensor bit too the actual gate (approx 20cm away), and that would detect the movement of the actual 'metal movement' of the gate as it passes by.
I've been hunting for a while, but most seem to be internal and the outdoor seem to be mostly IP45 - but I think I need IP67.
Even some Motion Detection units, when looking closely say PIR in hidden in the description!
There is no danger of any tree branches/birds etc as the light would be mounted no more than 20cm away and pointed directly to the front fence away from the house.
I'd rather not have any solar (aka some rechargeable battery's).
Is 'Motion Detection' really what I'm after...?
Cheers,
GT250.

Insufficient info ~ I've helped a mate install numerous automatic gate mechs (mostly all solar powered), and the controller boxes for them has a general purpose trigger output (lights, warning device, etc)...
is something like what you're looking for, but you have to do better than "an electric toothed motor thing" .... =)

Yep, ok.
Well, it's just a bog standard Gate control motor that has a cog that runs a toothed strip on the gate.
But the control board does indeed have a separate connection option for a 12v Light output.
As mentioned, it only operates when the gate is moving.
There is also a 'trig' port for an emergency opening button (of which I have attached a IP65 button), and I've just installed a Wi-Fi Switch module to that 'trig' port so that I can operate via the mobile phone.
So my next step was to have a light as Winter comes around to the dedicated 12v light port.
However, that link you provided (thank you), means I could add it to the 'trig' port... Humm,,,
This gate box/motor thing has given me hassles in the past (I think I made a post about it yonks ago). Well, it all turned out to be capacitor related and the company - I found out later - was aware of the 'bad batches', out there!
Then the internal board toothed 'wagon' wheels skipped. "Oh, sometimes that can happen!". Then it was a battery leak - orientation placement "Yes, we would consider it a design fault". As it lies sideways right over some connections at the terminal blades! Then the screws holding the motor became 'loose' causing the gate to randomly re-open (as it thought it had hit something), or open about 2mtrs and lockup/freeze, causing the control board to be reset.
I queried that the corroded connections meant that the motor screws would have had to been undone, hadn't they? "Oh, well, anyway who knows, but at least it all working now, no charge!"
That's why I just got the WI-Fi trigger switch installed. So I can make sure I can close and open from anywhere (I have cameras so that I can see).
I normally wait and see the gate close, but the missus (and some others), just hit the remote and zoom off LOL!!
Cheers,

I use a remootio wifi/Bluetooth module with my centsys motor.
It can be used with Google home etc to trigger smart lights etc, only at night time.
I set it to open the gate automatically when I get home using location of my phone.
You can export keys to apps on other phones and control access from the master. Handy if someone keeps forgetting their fob.
It also has an auto close function, mine is set for 30 seconds, it should be used with a safey beam though....
My motor controller has a dedicated 12v courtesy light output, programmable for duration etc....

Doc of timer board....
Make/model of gate controller?

Thanks for the link Wotnot for that Timer link.
But due to the size of what I can fit inside the Gate Controller enclosure, I've gone for a different smaller type of timed trigger, Aliexpress special
I have no need for an LCD display anyway.
Gentsys D2 Turbo. in the link they show a Green board whereas (no doubt I have the 'old model'!), mine is Orange. The Wagon Wheels mentioned above are under those Black Knobs. 'Somehow' these wagon wheels became out of sync after/during the repair due to battery corrosion and thus didn't allow me to - Set the Limits - correctly...

PS Wotnot: Slightly off topic. Finished making the 1mtr 32 level Canton RGB tower. Really nice. Bought the Ring PCB kit. Each LED had 4 legs, so can show a wide range of colours. But as always, some rings (whilst they all showed full, R,G and B, some of the patterns seemed 'off', yet other patterns were ok. Humm... When I enquired about why. I was told that 'some chips did it' and they have a new chip that will fix it!!! So I had to pay $1 + $3.80 shipping - LOL!! Still waiting for the 'new' chip....
