Default The Best Car Show to go to.

I keep asking this question ....and I thought I would post it here to see what meembers here know.

My Question is about is about car shows.

A car show I would like to go to would be more of a collectors, classic, or even museum type of show applicable to Australian motoring.

Ideally the show would have cars from the early 20s through to the late 80s
with as many possible different makes and models that were made over that time.

It would be great if some of the smaller trucks from this period could also be in the show.

Is there such a show? ...... Now that would be something.

Grab a copy of the magazine Unique cars, they usually advertise various shows of classics.

There are some museums out in country Vic that have come up on tv and in newspapers a few times that have rare and classic cars.

The way id go about it is attend concourse days of varying car clubs, owners are happy to show off there cars at these social events. You can actually touch and sit in them, the owners are always happy to talk and show.

Some hill climbs have classic classes where you will see one off, rare race cars that rarely see the light from most eras.

Did see one rare classic at the Rob Roy hillclimb (Vic MG car club grounds state championship event), it was a rare euro race car (think vintage car), ran on alcohol, was worth 1 or 2 Million, and was followed by the hill as it raced by 2 fire crews just in case something went wrong.

Some real rare classics worth big $ sitting in some garages that only come out for special events such as classic hillclimbs, club track days and concourse events.

In Vic every Friday the Herald/Sun has a motoring events calendar for the month with most events, concourses, club days etc listed.

I am in Victoria, however I would consider travelling to NSW ACT or SA if the show looks good.

I will keep a watch for what shows are on and see what happens

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

The Bay to Birdwood car run in Adelaide sounds like it fits your bill Checkitout. They alternate each year between Vintage and Classic cars and the run finishes at the Birdwood car museum. This year was for Vintage cars and next year is for Classics. I have paticipated in the last 2 Classic car runs and will be there next year as well.

The RACV has a classic/vintage car show happening January 18 at Mornington Race Course.

Apparently over 800 cars will be there.

I have booked this in the calender and will have the digital camera firing away.

All things going well I will be able to see some rare cars or even trucks that I am interested in.

Forget the Summer Nats at the ACT, it's now shite. (well actually has been for years now)
If you want to get harrassed by the EPA, be defected by the ACT cops and then have to put up with fat beer swilling Bogans with "prison pussy" goaties who dream about cool cars but never actually own one then go right ahead.
Nothing like taking a 68 fastback down there with the legal full exhaust it had just passed rego with and then get told by some wanker Cop that he figures it's too loud. If they don't want the show down there anymore then they should just stop it. No need for the cops to carry on like "zee Germans" and drive everyone away.
