    What format?
I think I have some from around 2012 that work with Oziexplorer (.ozf2) here somewhere.

    What Hema app is it?
    Hema Explorer?

If so, maps may need to be purchased as the older formats of maps (Oziexplorer and Memory-Maps) , instead they refer users to the developers of those apps sites, though they can still sell you the older format maps of course.

It also appears they're taking the line a lot of companies are nowdays by in order to unlock all the features, like using the most detailed map layers and other stuff.

I guess there's also this to look at -
It says at the bottom of each version there's 5 reviews, however those reviews are conveniently nowhere to be found when I click the review link...

    No probs.
Seems the Explore app isn't even listed on google play anymore, and of the Hema 4WD Maps Australia app it's nothing to get excited about either.
Hema used to be great, seems nowdays not so much.

might have something to do with it.

EDIT: works ok, unlimited trial that's only restriction is in Moving map mode (communication with the GPS) will only remain active for 15 mins each time. At the end of these times a dialog will be displayed and GPS Tracking will be deactivated and must be reactivated by pressing the GPS Tracking button, unless you purchase a one time license, and there are free Australia-wide maps available for it, though most likely the latest and greatest maps for it might have to be paid for.

Also depends on what type of navigation you want to do, there are some cheapy fleabay devices that have both on road and offroad software on the same device etc..

The only offroad Android app I've used is OziExplorer, and it works ok, though I have no idea if any of the free maps show the Googs track or not.

Perhaps just web search for "Australia off road apps Android" and checkout some of the results.
