I don't have a seller's card, so I can't compare one with the other. All I said was that the chip on the old public gammacard doesn't look like an Atmel chip.

Sellers say Sellers cards are not Gammas, Sellers use a version of loadme not sure which one, but apparently floating around the net is one with the bin's. I have seen one program cards, and they all load with different HSN's on them. Gammas don't load with loadme. This is what I have been told, the stream is logged and about 100meg file is sent overseas and someone extracts the details HSN,Prov etc over there then sends appropriate files back to the seller. Not sure what info they need.

Agreed.
Not certain about that. It's possible they can choose from several similar cards, depending on what is available, and program them with either a Sellers or Public OS.
Agreed.
Exactly, Sellers OS just seems to be an updated, more secure version.

I'm not saying it is DEFINITELY possible, but I think it is quite likely looking at the code of the different loaders.
I'm also fairly certain they are Atmel chips, although I suppose it is possible they have faked this info also. I couldn't imagine the sellers and Public OS cards not being from the same chip family.
What makes you believe the cards aren't Atmel?
If the gamma team was good enough to crack ird-2 and extract details then they can modify thier code to fit many cards
It doesn't LOOK like an Atmel - ie there are no trademarks that indicate Atmel. It looks unlike other Atmel chips, has numerous unused pads around the perimeter which more resemble microprocessors (Motorola or other manufacturers). And the major identifying text is "HS14.0606".
I would really like to read some hard facts...

I don't think the ATR was programmed to confuse people. As I read before, the AT90SC family chips do have different reply to reset based on the current mode.
When the card is unlocked to be programmed, it returns the above mentioned ATR which is a valid reply. It indicates that the card is in a secure EEPROM mode.
I am sure someone who managed to lock and then unlock the card can correct me here, as this is only my theoretical understanding of the process. I've never done it in practice.
if anyone has any questions within which i might be able to help.... you know where to find me.. cheers

i agree with agarol the gamma card is not an atmel. agarol can you upload pics of the ic you are referring to if you have any.
Has anyone tried Dpa on the gamma it seems to be a good candidate for this type of attack because of the high power it consumes when decryptying the payload
