Hi everyone,
I have one of those "Do it yourself" Strathfields DVX 555U PVR's where you fit your own HDD.
There is talk and links pointing to this forum about a firmware upgrade/hack.
Does anyone have anything to give re this subject?
Thanks
FLIP.

doh, must be a firmware bug for leap years 29/2 dates because it wont record anything today ie CRICKET!
also recording start from rewind position would be great.
Slightly OT but does anybody have the posts from "before the crash" on the tips and mods for this one?? Would be great to "do a Lazarus" and bring it back from the dead
I'd also like to hear from the forum member who sent me DVX555UINFO, "before the crash". I can't remember their forum username, but the first name of the author is shown as Andrew.
Hi all
I was given a product sample of the Dvx-555u to test and comment honestly on its benefits and flaws
Firmware updates can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.jokiin.com/PVR/ currently the latest version is:
Revision: 3.30 LG9013-1TU
Date: Sept, 07, 2007
To check your firmware version go to the menu System Info then Software version

If you have any suggested additions or modifications to the review please post them in the article’s comments section and I will pass them on to the manufacturer
thanks

I noticed when I took the cover of my dvx today it has a space where a second tuner should go. So i did a gooooogle and found this twin tuner version of the 555u
So i was wondering if anyone knows how to get hold of the firmware for one of these twin tuner models. It would be a nice little project to convert this 555u to a twin tuner one.
Thought that would be the case....
Can anybody recommend a similar bargain HD + Harddrive combo or a cheap HDPVR?
DGTEC DG-HD160PVR, if you're game.
I paid $276 for my first one (DSE clearance last year) and $150 for my second one (JB Hi-Fi clearance this year), and have no regrets at those prices.
Apparently Myer are now selling them for $299, which is still reasonable (IMO) if you can get one without any hardware faults. Make sure that you upgrade to the latest firmware (which can be an exercise in itself, as they're very fussy about the types of USB sticks that they'll accept a firmware upgrade from.... I used my digital camera!)
I am also interested in this device and desperately need info.
Can someone please let me know if they can help me.
Thought I might go and buy one of these devices and want to know:
1. How easy is it to get the recorded info on the HDD read by a PC and say converted to DVD format.
2. Assuming that 1 can be done how good is the quality of the recording?
3. Am I also able o get this device and take Video and audio in to record to the HDD
Thanks in advance
Bringing this back from the dead, i read here prior to the crash that the DVX555u can record HD programs but you werent able to view in SD. I would like to know if a HD recording is viewable on a HD TV ?
It can record HD, but it can't play it back, so the type of TV connected is irrelevant.
You'd still have to transfer the recordings from the DVX-555U's hard drive to something capable of playing HD recordings and outputting them to a HD TV. eg; HTPC.I would like to know if a HD recording is viewable on a HD TV ?
Well i just watched a HD program i recorded on my HD tv, played perfectly apart from a blue label in the top right that says "UNSUPPORTED HD FORMAT " .
