TEN HD to become a 24hour Sport Channel
Around April 2009, called OneHD
To quote a post at the TEN Forums:-
I hope you are all aware than TenHD will be canned as of April 2009 to make way for OneHD which is 24hrs non stop sport. This means you will not see any more TV shows, dramas, movies, sci-fi, comedy etc. in high definition. Only sport.
What's worse is they're going to simulcast OneHD on a second SD channel which will severely degrade the picture quality as you can't really fit 3 channels into a broadcasting space of 7mhz. It will be highly compressed and the result will be lots of MPEG compression artefacts such as macroblocking and general noise and blurryness.

great lets watch more Emerican sport! Ch10 will buy a bundled pack that gives them NFL, NHL & extreme sports etc & a few of the golf majors. I cannot see Australian sport being the winner here.

About bloody time something was on these other channels apart from Similcast.
Besides, TEN always did a great job with motor sports, the sooner Channel 7 looses the V8 Supercars the better.
Definitely good news for selecTV as a sports package was the only thing missing , well that package will be fta on ten.
I heard there was an idea to create a new entity between all the major networks that would run the HD channels and each one would specialise in a particular genre (i.e. 10HD = sport) and although each station would "run" their HD component all costs and profit would be shared... and then channel 9 was too broke and pulled out but ch10 liked the idea of going it independent.
Really, who cares, as long as we get more entertainment for free. I wonder what seven will come up with. BTW, Jan 1, they'll be permitted to broadcast completely different content on one of the spare SD channels each network has.
Anyone know of an easy way to contact Channel 10. I heard they have NBA and Baseball lined up to go with the American Football, I was wondering if they have tried to get some of the highlights shows (or god forbid, games!) of the NHL seeing they had all the other US sports.
I love this idea, as for bandwidth, they could use some of Channel 9s seeing they dont wish to use it!

the STB is not... however, there are some real good value HD STB's around, I saw Aldi had one for $69 (or was it $99?? Cant remember) anyway, still good value. I bought a DGTec HD STB for $69 from Cash Converters, nothing wrong with it and now coupled with a 17" LCD monitor via DVI, looks real good.
Ch10 has always had good motorsport content, its good to see a little jab and twist of the knife for Foxtel.
This is going to get very interesting.
Good on them for taking the fight to the ripoff merchants.
wouldnt it be nice to see RL..RU..ARules and all the australian racing go fta.
Just think how much revenue is created by these sports for the australian government , they should help in having them fta .

Jan 3, Dear Diary.................still the usual crap on the much vaunted FREEVIEW HD digital FTA channels,at least in this region.(Orange, Central West NSW)
Prime (ch7) has just finished POWER RANGERS, 15 minutes late and now we get 'Whispers, an Elephants Tale' or is that Tail?? Prime at least does seem to be using HD even if it is repeats and old movies.
As for SC10 and WIN 9, still the same old demo loop that has been running now since whenever.
Like a popular song of a few years ago that asked why when we were promised hope, it usually turned out to be just soap on a rope...............
