Hi,
A friend is looking to buy a flat screen TV soon and doesn't know what kind of connections his F@xtel box has (he's not technical).
I don't have cable TV and so couldn't answer some of his questions.
Am I correct in thinking that there are no HD broadcasts on cable?
He doesn't have an IQ box, just a standard (old style?) receiver supplied by the cable company.
What would be the best connection to a flat screen that these boxes can provide, composite or maybe component?
Does F@xtel broadcast any HD channels over satellite, could this be a better option.
Cheers.

HD is coming soon but you will need a new receiver.. Plus $xx a month extra for the new HD channels. And i think only available on sat not cable?
To answer your question, SCART to component cable.
Cable is currently Not HD it will be (rumor) Q1 this year but as for all the cool stuff you'll have to pay for it.
As for the connection SCART to component cable as said in pervious posts is going to be the best connection your going to get out of the foxtel STU's.
Just a side note, on your "Does F@xtel broadcast any HD channels over satellite, could this be a better option." comment, if you're Foxtel Cable, you will not be able to move to Foxtel Sat on the same address. Basicly if you're in a cable area then cable is all you're going to get.
Cheers

Hi,
thanks for all the prompt replies.
Yes I meant a Flat screen Plasma/LCD, although I still prefer a widescreen crt, but that's another story.
I didn't realise that these boxes had scart sockets on the back.
Looks like he will be staying with the box he has already got for at least the time being.
Thanks again.
A good CRT still rules!
I had a 81cm wide screen Lowe CRT which 6 months after warranty, picture tube played up. Since it was out of warranty the cost of repair could not be justified. The importer/distributor took pitty on me and did a deal with equivalent size Lowe LCD. I hate it.
The last good quality CRT still a superior picture to current LCD, Go for plasma.
