Default Great news for Mt Gambier - Mount Gambier Autofest & Show N Shine

The Mount Gambier A & H Society Inc, today announced it has secured a major extension for an already popular automotive event, Mount Gambier Autofest & Show N Shine, to be held annually during the last weekend of October, kicking off for the first time in 2009.

Autofest Group together with the support of the South East Street Machines, Mount Gambier A & H Society and the City of Mount Gambier have agreed to continue the longest running Street Machine event, now into its 31st year well into the future.

The organisers of the highly successful Shepparton Springnats Autofest and both the Murray Bridge SA and Corowa NSW Autofest events will establish the new Mount Gambier Autofest and Show N Shine event which will attract estimated crowds of between 15,000 – 20,000 spectators.

A couple of my club mates have done that climb in their GTR's, been meaning to go there for years now but its just too far.

    Great layout.

Mt Buller climb and Lake Mountain sprints are mind blowing events.

Shorter runs like Rob Roy (Vic mg car club track) are just too short, its over before it started.

Watch the last 30 seconds of this car, take note of its speedo, Gtr 4wd systems let off a hell of alot of noise when going over 160kmh

    Hill climbs are great fun.

Its actually quite stock from what Ive seen, some after market suspension i believe. Notice boost doesn't just kick in? Its quite progressive and smooth not like a high HP setup that's undriveable. Quite typical stock GTR response. Its not about total HP.

Very important to lose total HP in gaining torque out of corners in tight tracks and sprints.

@ Zed, Lines are not the best but when playing with trees and cliffs holding back=living longer.

Sometimes a smooth slow looking run is actually quicker than hanging out the tail and loosing time.

Gtr's tend to be setup too hard on the suspension side of things when people go aftermarket like mine.
Great on a race track but not too good on a road surface where irregularities are present.

The driver of this car was pretty smooth by gtr standards, his launch was at only 3000rpm (notice it bogged down?), normally a good launch is made at 6000 and its neck breaking, 4wd spinning hard.

I only saw 2 rear twitches a good sign he was coming out of corners smoothly and disciplined enough to hold back and be gentle on the power. Its hard, you want to power out but your fighting and holding back to avoid wheel spin. Looks unstable to the eye but perfectly normal and very typical of a gtr's characteristics.

Some of his entry speeds into the middle of the corner while still braking was a little hard, you could hear the tires protesting.

Still he posted the quickest time of that stage so he was doing something right.

The 4wd system can under steer into corners till the rear steering kicks in, looks like it wont turn, then it does. Notice the mid corner speeds on some of the tight up hill corners?100 to 120kph

A strange feeling for passengers, it takes a little time for people to get their heads around the system. Many owners lock the rear steering, its just too unnerving for them.

Its hard to understand how quickly you can enter a corner, your brains telling you that theirs no way the car will get around the corner that quickly and it does.
Always brings a warm smile to my face.
