Welcome to Vista.
Seriously, I don't know anyone actually use it after a few months.
I bought a new lap Top for Christmas with Vista Home Basic in a Compaq Presario very cheap $590 at Office Works and I am very happy with it I got it home and turned off Windows search indexing also turned off remote differential compression I also tuned off Automatic Windows Defender operation and Automatic disc Defrag also Windows Hibernation I also disabled User access Control. I have been very happy with the performance of the laptop but I found a heap of Windows updates I think about 50meg and I downloaded them and installed them I also Downloaded a HP critical Update and as soon as I rebooted the laptop the Mozilla Firefox lost all its settings like I just installed it and also my Thunderbird lost everything I had to reconfigure it with my IP settings and also my address book I also lost a heap of icons off the desk top has anyone else had any strange things happen when they have done an update.

What are you saying that Vista actually change your settings if thats the case we need to work out what is in the updates that is causing the problem
Its something to do with firefox I had that happen couple of times in XP
But your setting and bookmarks will be still in there you just have to fix firefox
I just have to member how I done it in vista
Firefox resets the user... I don't know why
also theres a addon for firefox that backsup you settings and bookmark well worth getting
