Did find what I need
looks like i need to do a whole lot of reading about updating ROMs.
Some good looking modded versions specifically made for the Dopod 838Pro, what I don't understand about is the "Radio" rom updates, what they do and how they are added

Ours is known as the Hermes. The radio rom messes with the TX & RX part of the device. The other roms do not its only the applications. Some ppl find it works better some worse, depends on you network operator, blah blah.
